Found a link on the www.jazzboston.org (http://www.jazzboston.org) website to this NOLA/JF-related article, which I had somehow missed in my Sunday paper:
http://www.boston.com/travel/getaways/us_south/articles/2007/02/25/jazz_fest_fans_take_time_to_help_new_orleans/
Couldn't edit the thread title, but here's another article from the Christian Science Monitor linked on the jazzboston site: http://www.alternet.org/story/48282/

Hey ya'll! I have been away on vacation, and now I am trying to dig out...so I haven't been able to check the bored for a while.
Pretty cool getting in the Boston Globe. Thanks for making this sticky! It's a tribute to all the good work you all did last year. When, Clea, she wrote the piece, was interviewing a person for this article in a local cafe, the person at the table next to them, John, said, "I volunteered last year also." John was a big help with FestAid last year when Glenda couldn't make it down. Amazing how it all works out and connections continue to be made that make this all possible!
Well, I am going to top a couple threads with this info to make sure as many people as posible can see this next announcement, so bear with me.
In the next day or so, we are going live with our automated signup process. Thanks Brad and Matt! Get on www.FestAid.com, login, and signup. The sooner you signup, the better, so we can gauge if we need to bump up our commitment to opportunities like Musician's Village. You will be able to revise your choices at any time. If you have problems, click the email links and let us know what they are, so we can address them.
The descriptions for a couple of the opportunities are going to change. Now that we have the signup process working, we will be revising some of the content on the page to update it, and we will be trying to get more volunteer opportiunities. Below is a brief summary of the changes in the volunteer opportunities.
The St. Bernard Project is now the St. Bernard Recovery Project, which is focusing on rebuilding St. Bernard Parish by rebuilding homes, civic centers, schools, and interacting with the community.
Arabi Wrecking Krewe is no longer cleaning and gutting homes. They still need assistance in fundraising, community volunteering, increasing public awareness for the work they are doing and the work that needs to be done, and are looking for licensed, bonded, and insured contractors that can do rebuilding work. Signing up with them will redirect you to their volunteer signup page, and after that you can work directly with them.
Katrina Krewe is no longer picking up trash along New Orleans roads. If you click to signup with them, you will be redirected to the volunteer page on their website, which has many organizations through which you can volunteer.
Thanks for all of your help in the past! We look forward to giving back to New Orleans again this year.
Regards, Huck

Thanks bywterbro! A ton of credit also goes to zydkogrl and the rest of the threadheads who are also spreading the word and doing the work. It has been so cool how this has all come together and continues to do so especially since New Orleans and its citizens are the beneficiaries of this work.
