I've been to New Orleans nine times but it has always been for the fest. I now have the job of planning a bachelor party in the city and I am a little bit like a fish out of water. My trips down there have always been focused on the music, and this group probably isn't really into that and would rather drink for 48 hours straight. I was thinking of playing Bar Golf on the saturday afternoon of the weekend and need some advice on fun bars in the vicinity of the quarter that won't mind 14 guys stumbling in for a half hour. In a game of Bar Golf you visit 9 or 18 holes (bars) and have a drink at each. There a variety of ways to get penalties and ways to get strokes taken off your score. As you could imagine, things start to fall apart towards the later holes. So anyways, I am looking for 9 bars within walking distance of each other that are fun and wouldn't get upset when we stumble in.
Thanks in advance for any advice people can provide. I really only know places to see music and haven't spent too much time straight up partying in the city. I was thinking of starting at d.b.a and then working back through the Quarter.
Thanks for any help.

Hey Now Tom.
While I am sure that there will be many Threadheads who will chime in to give you suggestions (if you would like I could add a few of my personal favorites) you may want to check if d.b.a. is actually open as a bar if/when it does not have live music scheduled.
I think there are several clubs (Tipitinas?) that are not generally open during the day for customers who just want a drink, and only open on the evenings they have shows scheduled...........
I may be off on this, but I think I would double check with d.b.a. beforehand; if they are not open daily, there are certainly one or two!!! other places in that vacinity that would be happy for your business.
Have a fine and funky time, Matthew

Well, if it's bar stumbling you're after, I think the Quarter is the way to go. Lots of bars, lots of stumbling, boobs, strip clubs...sounds like a golf game to me!

i need a little more info before giving specific suggestions:
where are you staying?
age rage of the partiers?
budget restraints?
bourbon can be fun for such an adventure, but it can get expensive real fast.
general suggestions: everyone should know (memorize or have card in their wallet) where they are staying, no one should ever do anything/go anywhere alone, and women who wear size 15 pumps might not be women.

how many strokes do you get for that?
If you're walking from bar to bar and want bars in close proximity, the only place for that is the Quarter. However, since you will be under the influence and not that aware, I would suggest staying on Bourbon Street where there are lots of people, so that you don't get mugged, rolled or shot on one of the side streets, particularly if your late afternoon turns into early evening when it's dark.

Well I didnt have time to map it out but it should be fairly easy to map out on your own. I have grouped them into legs. I actually have you finishing at dba as they do not open until 4PM.
Johnny White's, Pat O's, 3 Legged Dog,
Jimani, Chart Room, Ryans, Attiki, Ol Toones, Kerry
Molly's, the Abby, Coop's, Aunt Tiki's
Lafittes, Harry's Corner, The John, R Bar, 13
19th Hole:dba
Not quite an Arnold Palmer or Bobby Jones designed course but it is definitely challenging. Lemme know if you need a caddy...I work for Abita Amber:D

Bourbon. Street.
In the later holes beware:
The Bourbon Pub, The Parade, Cafe Lafitte in Exile, The Golden Lantern, The Roundup, Good Friends and Rawhide. (Enter at your own risk. ;) )

Nice course, Gumbo. I'll play golf with you anytime. Where's my driver?
If any of the krewe orders an Arnold Palmer it should be a 2 shot penalty.

Awesome! Looks like a great course. We are staying at the Inn on Bourbon and the age range is 30 to 35, although at this point I think our livers are in their 40's. I am thinking of starting this in the early afternoon so we would probably finish after 4 making dba's a good ending spot.
how many strokes do you get for that?
Any is too many....

How many of these bars are going to be cool with 14 dudes walking in? I don't want to piss off any locals. Although we won't be staying long at each hole.

Better 14 than none. It's not like you have to make a reservation to get in a bar, and I'm pretty sure any tarbender in NOLA can handle 14 drinks at one time.
My youngest daughter said it best last week when my mother was worried about running late for a reservation at the Blow Fly Inn. "You have a reservation for 55. They'll wait."

Depends what you're drinking.
Ask for "14 Ambers, please", and they will be happy you're there.
Ask for "An Amber, a hurricane, a mojito, a tequila sunrise, two kamikazes, two vodka martinis (one dirty), a gin martini, a Bud Light, a Pimms Cup, a Sazerac, a Long Island iced tea, and what kinds of wine do you have?", and you'll get onto the bartenders bad side really really quickly.

Understood. Our rules say beers and shots only. One person will order and pay for 14 pints and then individuals can buy shots or another beer to birdie. Ordering a hurricane is an automatic +3.

You could also stop by Jesters at 419 Bourbon St, my brother Arden works there and would be happy to tarbend a golf hole for y'all! ;^D
