just got this from Basin Street Records:

Fresh off the success of Livin’ a Treme´ Life, Kermit Ruffins is ready to add a little Bourbon Street jazz to the upcoming holiday season. Produced by Grammy Winner Tracey Freeman, Have A Crazy Cool Christmas is Kermit Ruffins’ bold foray into Christmas music. The album runs the gamut from yuletide classics like “Silent Night” and “Jingle Bells” to Kermit’s own rollicking originals like “A Saints Christmas” and “Crazy Cool Christmas.” Kermit is joined once again by former bandmates from the Rebirth Brass Band, as well as fellow Basin Street Records recording artist Irvin Mayfield and New Orleans hotshot trombonist Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews.

Make no mistake, everything about Kermit Ruffins exemplifies New Orleans. Residing in the town of Treme´, former home of his predecessors Louis Prima and Louis Armstrong, he continues the big brass tradition the town is known for – Kermit plays a “sweet, sweet horn”, as Michael J. Agovino of Newsweek notes. His musical stylings resemble the culture of New Orleans, a melting pot, with Jazz, funk, standards and hip-hop. His charisma, both onstage and on his recordings, reflects the spirit of his city. Kermit’s love for New Orleans is not just shown in his music. He gives back to his city not as if a necessity or chore, but as a way of life. And Kermit’s city embraces him the same way he embraces it.

wondered if anyone would be put in a Muppet frame of mind.... Ruffins can be Muppet like at times... just as long as he ain't got frogs legs on the barbecue.

I definitely second the recommendation to catch Kermit at his regular Tuesday Bullet's gig. Vaughn's is great and all, as are the dozens of other times and places I've seen Kermit, but the Kermit gig I saw at Bullet's during the 2006 Fest--while the surrounding neighborhood was still very much reeling from the aftermath of the Thing--stands alone as one of the best experiences I've ever had in New Orleans. Much more "real" imo than most other experiences, in that it was not a tourist event at all. I think I was one of perhaps five non-locals in a very large, very friendly crowd, which ranged in age from nine months to ninety years old.

Lit, where is Bullets?

Seventh Ward. 2441 A.P. Tureaud Street.

I drove with some directions I received from a local and remember that I almost missed a turn that comes up rather quickly. But once you get on the street it is easy to find--cars parked all over the neutral ground outside and basically just a big neighborhood gathering.

Love this disc! We just got in the mail. Also picked up the Dylan CD, which is quite good too. Last year, we picked up Bela Fleck's holiday CD, and I would recommend that too.
Shucks, just buy it all. Just don't blame me in January...:)

Picked this one up last weekend and liking it very much. Still like his "Christmas Time Is Here" from last year a lot too.

The new Kermit, the Dylan and the THR releases are the new ones for me this year. Bela's and the Motown one that McGregor posted were the new ones last year--and those are still great to hear. Been shuffling them all and all my other holiday music this weekend and they fit in quite well. I now have almost 13 hours of great and pretty eclectic holiday music on the playlist--it's like having my own station of good holiday music.
