Holy cow. Once again they played at a small local bar around three miles from my house tonight, just like last summer. I have been seeing these guys for almost 20 years in all sorts of venues across the country and I have never seen them hit an incongruent note. Tonight was no different. This was apparently a dress rehearsal of sorts for their tour in support of their new album, Flower Petals. I'd say it was the best I've ever seen them, except I think I say that every time. Suffice to say that the new album, which I bought at the show and had them all sign--which they did very graciously--is just as great as almost all of their stuff, and the show was too. I was only too happy to convince some neighbors to join us on a "school night," and they were blown away. Go see 'em if they are coming to a venue near you, and pick up the new disc. As I guaranteed the friends who joined us for the show, you'll be very happy you did.

I love 'da' Subdudes, this will be a CD I will get.
Thanks for the report.

We've also have enjoyed following the dudes as well. In fact, we'll see then 3 times in the course of a month starting early November.

We also enjoy the new Cd. A different sound for them, more along the 3 Twins sound. Still a great CD and an interesting storyline. I'm just not sure who gets married in the wedding song.

That's awesome, Lit! They play 3 shows in 2 days around the MD area. The Birchmere, 9/26, and 2 shows at the Rams Heads Tavern 9/27, one at 3PM and the second at 7PM

Sounds great .... hopefully, they'll come back to L.A. someday.

Hey FG, the Dudes are about an hour south in San Juan Capistrano on 10/10.

Got tix for the October 12th at the Sierra Nevada Brewery in Chico & I hope it's a rockin' night - the acoustic show I caught at Southport this year during Fest was great, I just wanna hear Tommy cut loose! Funny you should mention the "little" room thing, the 'dudes are playing the Ukiah brewery a couple of days after the Chico show & I'll bet that place doesn't hold 100 people! Just a leeeeetle bit too far to make it back home on a school night...

on an aside, any band can rock at midnight in a packed smoky nightclub, but my new litmus test for a band is how they do in the morning, after 3 hours (or no) sleep - the Subdudes absolutely ruled on the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass stage they opened at 11:00 a.m. Even allowing for the time zone change, that's still earlier than most musicians even get up!

I love the Dudes. I see they are playing Chicago Dec. 12 @ the Park West. Things must be good , this is the largest indoor venue that I have seen them play in Chicago in the 20 + years that I have been following them.

I love the subdudes and wish they would come back to St Louis. The new CD is also on my wish list. One of my favorite raffle prizes, I have won over the years, is a live subdudes show from 1991. I won it in the very first Threadhead Charity Raffle. Forgive me, I can't remember who donated the prize. Live shows from three bands that played the same day at Jazz Fest. Great Prize!!!

They will be in town for two shows on 11/12. My only question is early, late or both shows. They are playing at the Mucky Duck which is also small. Capacity is 99 with maybe 10 SRO tickets. I have to do SRO....not able to sit during the Dudes show. Their show back in April before JF has to be one of the best S/D show ever. I've been a fan of Malone/Magnie & Krewe since the Lil Queenie & the Percolators/Continental Drifters days. It was great to see them regroup a few years ago.

fyi:
Tour dates on the east, west coast and points between.

Subdudes are a great live show.
Only time they were less than terrific was the period when they had a full drum set & 2 electric guitars, a bit like any ole rock band.
Lately its been acoustic

Good to hear Lit!!!

I too am a long time Subdudes fan (they used to play Salt Lake regularly when they were based in Boulder, but now they only get here every once in a blue moon) and like you, I never seem to see them have an off night---they are always tight and right on the money, and seem like such nice people as well. I am a bit surprised that they never busted big as far as mainstream success goes, but then again, everyone dosent have the same great musical taste that Threadheads have...........

If you have the chance, we will have to hang out at Southport on the second weekend of Fest---The Subdudes always tear that mother up, (the last couple of years they have played both friday and saturday nights) and it has become a highlight of my Jazzfest.

Glad to hear you and your krewe had such a good time---Matthew

Crap - they are in the city tonight starting in 45 minutes.... If traffic wasn't such a beyotch....... sigh. I hate it when i miss stuff like this. Next time they'll be up this way we'll be in New Orleans - so I guess I can't complain....but I may sulk.

Note: I just realized they put the album out a month ago...yippie iTunes

I really liked the songs they played from the new album last night. And as an aside, when they come out into the audience and to "The Rain" and "Known to Touch Me," it never gets old to me. There were maybe 70 people there so we had good exposure in any event, but when they are all playing right next to you it is always even more magical.

Anyway, back to the new album. I've now had a chance to listen to it. The first half or more sounds like great classic Subdudes with a few interesting changes, but then they go into this series of songs with a storyline that I haven't quite figured out yet. It is still good, but different than the rest of the album and I don't like it as much (but again, not bad at all--just different and a little less immediately pleasing like so much of the rest of their stuff).

As for tonight's show, tell me about it. I am in the city right now prepping for a major argument here in the morning and that's just one of the things going on here that's killing me with temptation. First and foremost is the Elvis Costello thing with Toussaint, Levon and Richard Thompson, which, like Scoop, I had an opportunity to get tickets for. Oh yeah, U2 is playing in Giants Stadium too...

Well, I can't complain too much. I love what I do for a living and this argument is going to be fun; I saw a great 'dudes show last night; I am seeing Levon (with special guest Donald Fagen!) in CT tomorrow night; and I am seeing Richard Thompson in a few weeks too (after I get back from New Orleans...).

Ok, back to studying...and deciding where to have dinner.

They came out here (Driggs, ID) for our music on main series this summer (they've been before). They were great, but it happened to be a chilly day and I've decided I prefer them more when it's warm (their music just goes with a warm evening) :)

The way they enjoy making music together it's hard to believe they split up for all those years cause they couldn't get along.
Tommy gave up on being a rock star and got back to his roots!

I couldn't agree more. Especially on their very first recording, almost every song was a masterpiece. Reminded me of early Beatles, I thought for sure it would be Top 40 hit (do they still do Top 40?)
Is it :
A) Record companies didn't promote it very hard, or
B) As H. L. Mencken said, "Nobody has ever gone broke underestimating the taste of the American public"
C) A bit of both?

Not only is thier songwriting exceptional, but thier soaring vocal harmonies are virtually unmatched---I think they compare favorably with Crosby Stills & Nash or The Band...........

That said, popular tastes are often dictated by the lowest common denominator, and the Subdudes, like so many other great "unknown" bands, are low key enough to have kept them off the mainstream radar; while this allows us to still see them play in intimate venues and settings, it would be nice to see them realize a bit of the commercial success and popular acclaim that they are surely due.

I also have caught the subdudes in Colorado (Boulders' Fox Theater, Lodo Festival in Denver) a few times, and it was always great; they seemingly have a deep connection to the Rocky Mountains, and the Mile-High setting really brings out the best in the band.........

Fred, I have been after Michael to meet me at Fest since I first met him, and I dont understand how he can be SO close to New Orleans without being more interested in checking out all the amazing music to be had there...........

After he moved back to Houston from living here in Salt Lake, I was trying to convince him and Judith to come to Fest with me, but it was a no-go for them due to work, so instead, they convinced me to fly down to Houston, and hang with them and thier friends for a few days at Houstons' International Festival (that year it featured Bonnie Raitt, Los Lobos, Wild Magnolias) which was held a couple days before Jazzfest started.

We had a blast, and from there I rented a car for the week and drove from Houston to Fest (which in all my times in New Orleans was one of the only times I was driving---I have never wanted the responsibility of having a car since, taxi's are the way to go for me) and then flew home from N.O.

I suppose I could always fly to Houston again, and we could all head down to Fest from there; I usually dont get my flight until after the schedule is announced, (just in case one week looks a lot better to me than the other) but I typically fly in on the second tuesday (day of the Patry) and stay a full week, flying home on the tuesday after Fest ends, to give me a chance to catch my breath..........

It would be way cool to hang out with you, and Michael is excellent people , and as I really enjoyed Houston, lets keep in touch and see what we can figure out---It was great to meet you at Jolie's crawfish boil, and I will plan on getting together next May!!!

There's something about the Subdudes that just puts me over the top. I think it's because so much of their music has been there when major (and not always happy) events have occurred in my life, and now when I hear certain songs, I have this Pavlovian response to them: tears.

My sister Rhonda turned me on to them (courtesy of a friend of hers in Chicago), and a week later, I saw them in a bar here in Toronto with just 60 people. (They haven't been back here since.)

I think the watershed moment for me was a few years ago during the Fest. My beloved grandmother (Baba) had just passed away earlier that day, and the dudes were playing at the CAC. I made my way to the centre of the room and immediately befriended some amazing people from Jersey who took care of me. I'll never forget that night - or those folks from Jersey - because I was a basket case. I told them the story about my Baba before the band started playing, and they were THERE for me. For most of the night, I was a puddle of tears...and a bunch of complete strangers spent that night bringing me beer and water and wrapping their comforting arms around my shoulders - it was amazing. To this day, when I hear songs like "Angel to Be" or "Carved in Stone", I'm transported back to that time and place.

A couple of years later, I broke up with my girlfriend of 10 years, and a whole new set of Subdudes songs became my catalyst for tears. "If wishing made it so", "Why can't I forget about you" and even "Sarita" (it rhymes with her name) are extremely tough to listen to...but in a good way.

Since then, I haven't experienced any difficult situations associated with the Subdudes (thank Gawd), but I'm sure there will be more. And even if there isn't, some of their songs are so beautiful, you can't help but be touched by them, with or without an association. ("The Rain" comes to mind.)

Long live the subdudes!

I've only listened to the sound clips on iTunes, but IMHO, it definitely has a different feel to it....but I like it! Tommy's 'plaintive' vocals seem to be toned down a lot, and they sound like they're really branching out. Can't wait to get it!

So far I think about half the tunes sound pretty close to a lot of vintage Subdudes, albeit with a little different instrumentation, and the other half has a different sound and feel to it. Still getting used to the latter.

Ross, if I remember correctly, the Subdudes show at CAC was billed as "The Reunion" show, as it was the first time they played together after splitting up in 1996; The CAC was almost empty, and there was room to spare---It was a night filled with emotion, and it was one of the most inspirational, musically charged shows I have ever seen.............

Hey, my krewe and I were at that '96 "reunion" show too. There more than ten of us, and we were in the center towards the front. Matthew, I recall the room as more than "almost empty," but it was certainly thinner than the oppressive crowds for which the CAC has become known; and yes there was plenty of room to move, which was great. To this day that is widely-acknowledged among our group as one of the best Fest nights ever.

Ross, sorry I didn't know you then either. I'm not one for hugging guys--at least not strangers--but I certainly would have bought you a beer (or, better yet, handed you one of the microbrews I smuggled in my cargo shorts...).

BTW; For the record, the CAC always has MUCH more room to groove right up front-----If you can just get yourself to squeeze thru the throngs of people and head up to the front few rows, you will be much happier with the dreaded venue.

Matthew and Lit, maybe you can clear something up for me...

I've been to the CAC a couple of times since that Subdudes gig (e.g. the Meters and Robert Randolph) and I could SWEAR that the place where the Subdudes played is different than where the Meters played. Am I on crack or what? I recall the Subdudes venue as being one big rectangular hall with a stage at the end, whereas the Meters hall was more of an "L" shape with the stage in the center...

(And yeah, Matthew, it was a LOT easier to get out and grab a beer (and get back) at that Subdudes show. And the next time I'm at a show at the CAC - I swore there wouldn't be a "next time" - I'm flying air Matthew, right near the front!)

Ross, that is so funny that you ask that question----I would SWEAR that the CAC has changed locations, and that it is NOT in the same building as it was in the 1990's.

When I was at the CAC for the funky Meters show at Fest this year, I actually asked the woman at the will-call office about it, but she had no idea what the hell I was talking about............

I have seen at least a dozen shows at the CAC (during both Fest and Mardi Gras) and I am convinced that its not the same building as it was when I first started seeing shows there.

That Subdudes show in '96 is the only time I've ever been to the CAC, and I recall the room more like you described it for that show, not with "L" shape with the stage in the center.

Even then, I do recall that it wasn't too easy to get out for a beer. Others in our krewe were gone for a long time whenever they left, and when they returned they were frustrated with the process. That's why I was especially happy to have the cargo shorts loaded for action...

I think I have walked in my own alcohol for CAC shows just about every time I have ever attended a show there, both because of what a pain-in-the-ass it is to buy a beer there, and also for the outrageous prices they charge for thier booze..........

If I owned a venue that was able to get away with charging 8 bucks for a can of Heineken, I would make it as fast and easy as possible for the patrons to separate themselves from thier money.(Apparently the management of the CAC cant even figure that much out)

I will be so happy when the Orpheum and Saenger are back up and running!!!

So far I think about half the tunes sound pretty close to a lot of vintage Subdudes, albeit with a little different instrumentation, and the other half has a different sound and feel to it. Still getting used to the latter.

While it is a different sound, it is very similar to the 3 Twins sound if you've ever heard their stuff. A lot more input by Magnie that Malone on this CD.

The sound does grow on you especially when you try to figure out the whole story and who each of the characters are.

If they closed with the same song (which I'm sure they did) YYR!!! And wouldn't that be a great way to finish off a camping night at CFF!!!!! Nudge, Nudge

They are still in accoustical mode. No piano for John and Steve plays mandolin on a couple of the new songs. If I remember right, they did 5 new ones on the first night and 4 on the second night.

I was especially happy beacuse Tommy obliged my first night's request by playing Mississippi Home on the second night.

I'm going to play it safe. I'm doing the first show at 7 & I might stay for the second. They are playing the Mucky Duck which is as close to having them play in your living room. That would be my guess. They've been doing that for a while now; sometimes it's the very end of the show, and sometimes they go back to the stage for a few more. They usually do "The Rain" and "Known to Touch Me" during the crowd part, but not always. It never, ever gets old for me--even when I know it's coming.

Its a 7 hour drive, but the room that they will play is beautiful--------A couple of years back I got to see Porter Batiste Stoltz play there, and it's a perfect sized space with an full-on sound system, and an amazing view overlooking Lake Tahoe.

I also threw some dice with Russell during set break, and while we both lost a little $$$, it was a fine time nonetheless............

(If I get the chance to say hey to Russ tonight at the show here, I will have to see if he remembers)

They are playing a much larger venue than they have in the past. The last few times they have been trough Chicago it was at the HOB.
Although the venue is larger it is one of my favorites to see a show.It will be interesting to see if they try the accoustic encore in such a large venue. I believe the capacity is 1000-1300.

I can't believe they did "Papa Dukie" and "All the time" accoustically for the 2nd show. It's good to see they are changing it up.

When they played their two shows in Mass last weekend, they did both encores in the audience with both Rain and Known. But as a kicker, they added My Soul from the new CD to end it. That one really capped it off.

In Dallas, they played Poor Davids (a great listening room, by the way). Not close to a sellout. I think capacity is around 300-400, I'd guess there were 100-150 there for the dudes. The nice thing is, the way the club is set up, it doesn't feel empty even when it's not near capacity.

Oh yeah, got a chance to make some PQA gumbo for them as well. Hell, if I can cook this all the time, I have no need to go back to JF; or maybe I'll open my own booth. Started with about 10 quarts, came home with about 1 to 2.

One of the best things I ever saw the Subdudes at jazzfest in 03. They were rocking and Crosby and Stills were onstage by the monitor mixer. (They were next on the lineup) They were bowing and really encouraging them. And probably getting blown away by them

Just as they were going to end and Tommy was just shredding, he broke a string. He had that OH SHIT look on his face. Stephen Stills motioned to him to hold on and he ran back to the back of stage to his rack and grabbed one and just tossed it to Tommy.

And Tommy plugged it in and carried away.

Cool stuff. Then CSN came out and played as inspired of set they have played since the sixties I think.

I'm listening to Shelley King's new cd Welcome Home. She recorded and co-produced with John Magnie, Tim Cook and Steve Amedee. Great cd!!!
Shelley King is from Austin and this is her story on how she teamed up with The Subdudes.

The origins of her collaboration with members of The Subdudes was first seeing the band in 1993 in Austin and being knocked out by their show, and then buying a cassette of one of their albums in a used tape bin. “I could not take it out of the tape player in my car for months,” King recalls. “I just got into the groove where that was my music and the soundtrack to my life.” She later met and befriended the group running into them on tour and playing shows together.

Welcome Home started out informally with an initial session at Magnie’s home studio in Fort Collins, Colorado. “I really just went to demo a few songs and kind of goof around in the studio with them,” explains King. “We were in the studio for three days and came out with five songs, and had just an amazing time together. I wasn’t trying to do a record. But when I started listening to it all afterwards, I thought, wow, this is really special, and I’d really love to do it again.”

Over two subsequent visits to Fort Collins, a full album took shape. “It came about really organically,” King enthuses. “We didn’t get together and say we’re going to produce a record. We were just thinking about the music and having fun recording with no pressure, and whatever comes of it comes of it. When it all came down I had recorded a whole record. I savored every moment of it and didn’t want it to end. It was a total labor of love.”

Welcome Home is now sure to reside in the hearts of all that hear it as a contemporary classic of soulful American music. Yet for all the honors, praise and success King has achieved — and doing so by booking her own tours and releasing her albums on her own Lemonade Records label — the ultimate rewards for King are those of the soul. “It’s joyous work,” she concludes of her career. “It’s what I love doing and it’s such a blessing to be able to do what you love every day.”

Great show!! I hadn't seen them in a couple years, so it was a real treat for me. Best part was the encore - they came out onto the floor for 2 songs, the crowd gathered 'round and got real quiet, and we had one great big sing a long. Very magical moment!

Went out to see them last night in Pittsburgh, solely on the recommendations on this board. Well, that, and I did download a show beforehand to see what they sounded like. I was very impressed! As Sharon said, they played the encore in the middle of the crowd, although our audience wasn't quite so quiet. Funny those people didn't seem very interested in the band after dropping $25 cover. There are TONS of bars within walking distance they could have gotten into for free. Anyways...

So, I went last night to see them now so that I could free up some space on the cubes at the fest for another band that might not make it to Pittsburgh. However, it had the opposite effect, and now I have to MAKE room to see them again at fest!

Tommy Malone is a seriously underrated fella...a hell of a guitarist, on both acoustic and electric, and a truly soulful singer. (His brother Dave is no slouch either!).

...although our audience wasn't quite so quiet. Funny those people didn't seem very interested in the band after dropping $25 cover. There are TONS of bars within walking distance they could have gotten into for free. Anyways...

Yeah, I never understand that.. plenty of other places to go if you want to talk the whole time. Glad our crowd was respectful, or I would have been seriously irritated!

Amen to this, though personally, I enjoy both Tommy and Dave more on the electric guitar, (which for both is usually a Fender Strat, preferably cranked up to 11) than when they focus on the acoustic side of things, although I am sure that there are many who don't feel the same way.............

Thanks for the subdudes show review, Lit. Love those guys! Will have to check out their new cd. They played at the Minnesota Zoo a couple of summers ago, and a huge rain storm had just blown thru, so there was no power for a while right before their set was supposed to start. It's a small venue, so they came down front and played unplugged until they got the power up and running. It was great to hear a few songs like that with their beautiful harmonies, and with just acoustic guitar and accordian accompanying, (and some percussion) it was perfect. Tommy broke a string on his acoustic, so the opening act dude (Paul Metsa) brought out his guitar for him until they got his string changed.

I will agree that the subdudes are MUCH more suited to acoustic music than the Radiators (who many of you know that I am a HUGE fan of) will ever be---That said, I really enjoyed when the subdudes used to go balls-out with the loud, rawking guitar-driven sound that they had in years past.........

The subdudes instrumental sound has mellowed quite a bit lately, but they still have the best vocal high harmonies in all live music---BAR NONE!!!

I saw the Rads Pre-World War II blues show at Tip's a little while back and really enjoyed it. Saw some of the webcast from the Post-War night and prefered the night I went.

I heard the Rads didn't rehearse for those gigs, they have enough material in both of those categories to just pull them outta the hat. How those guys remember all the songs they do, I will never understand!

Just saw them Saturday night at the Rock N' Bowl with Bonerama opening. Missed the Bone band but the three trombonists played with the Rads most of their set. I saw Mark Mullins setting up his gear and he had as many stomp boxes as any guitarist! Really cool arrangements, more or less made up on the fly. I know they have played with them before but, again, it blows my mind to see horn players like that improvise such tight parts. The musicianship 'round here is ridiculous.

Ten bucks for two bands, just like it was for the smoking Anders/Tab show a couple weeks ago. Gotta love that! Thanks, John Blancher!

Mark Mullins is one of the few musicians that I know of who can sit in with the Radiators and fit in perfectly---The Rads already have a pretty full sound, but MM compliments the band's unique groove as only a few others are able...........

Saw the boys again last night. Once again brought along some newbies for their first introduction to them. And, as expected, they were totally blown away.

Great little music hall in the NW corner of CT.

Tommy in particular was in rare form. He started spontaneously doing a "Riverdance"-type of step dance move, and it became a bit of a running joke for the show; as did a woman who was shouting out her devotion (as well as her phone number) for Steve in between songs. I have long admired Tommy's guitar playing, but last night was some of the most amazing jamming I have ever seen him do in the 20+ years I've been seeing them. He did an acoustic jamband-style solo in almost every one of the upbeat tunes. And he was cracking jokes and engaging in some hilarious chatter between songs. He made a comment about the anti-depressants kicking in and the chemistry starting to work, and I got the sense that he was only half-joking.

Just a great night all around. Non-stop, ear-to-ear grins from our krewe, the band and the entire audience the whole night. And "The Rain" and "Known to Touch Me" in the middle of the crowd for the encore.

I can't think of another band I could so confidently recommend to anybody I know (or don't know) and be assured that they will absolutely love them, even if, as was the case last night, they had never heard one of their songs before and knew nothing about the band beforehand.

No Stratocaster last night; only the hybrid and a regular acoustic. He played the Stratocaster a bit last time I saw them, in September '09.

I've really never heard him sound better on guitar than he did last night. He had an incredible groove going.

The subdudes show at Rock n Bowl (2nd wednesday of Fest, after Rosetree Fest and Jolie's crawfish boil) was an all-electric show, with the volume cranked up to 11 on Tommy Malone's Stratocaster ALL night long---A small but rabid crowd, cold, cheap bottles of Bud and an absolutely stunning show by the 'Dudes made for the single most enjoyable day and night of Fest for me this year..........

One of the finest, funkiest 24 hours of my life!!!

I am trying to decide where and when I can get my next subdudes fix this summer, as a road trip is about the only way I will catch them anytime soon.

Hey Lit,

We saw them Friday up in Maine. Just curious, did Steve have a new pro with him?

BTW, Tommy's moved back to NOLA, up near the lake. He said he missed the place too much. Also, John knew nothing about what was going on with his episode on Treme, I had to fill him in. He didn't film until 4 a.m. None of them have HBO so they don't follow the show.

Hey Chas,

I'm a bit foggy today and I'm totally missing the "new pro" reference. No idea what that means at the moment, sorry.

Too bad they're not following Treme. After the Magnie name check and Tommy's "Fat Tuesday" tune in the Mardi Gras episode, and the Magnie appearance and "All The Time In The World" ending last week, they're getting some nice exposure.

It still amazes me that these guys have never really hit the big time. I know that's by-and-large the legacy of the New Orleans music scene, but these guys just appeal to so many different people of all ages, and all their albums are so good, that I would think they could have transcended the jinx or whatever it is.

You really have to hear it though. It's funny, we tracked it down to the store where he bought it and we were the second one's looking for it after the show. I also know of two other people who going to buy one.

Even when I gave John the line of "I didn't know you had a Magnie up here." , he had no clue what I was talking about.

Ah, a prop. Yes, he had that. It makes a cartoon-ish "boinggggg" sound when he presses it, right? Yeah, he pulled that out a few times last night. One time Magnie even called for him to pull it out.

Lots o' fun going on last night. We were in the second row, and closest to the exit right next to the stage. After they played the encore in the audience, I thanked each of them individually by name as they walked by me on their way out that door. And you know what great guys they are, they each stopped and acknowledged the thanks with either a return of thanks or a genuine "you're very welcome," etc. So we go to leave, and we follow a guy who looks like he knows where he's going, out that same door. But whereas he went outside, we wanted to stay in the building and grab a drink at the bar. Long story slightly less long: we take a few wrong turns, and just as I announce "This is just like Spinal Tap," we end up walking right into their dressing room. We all get the giggles, a few more thank yous and handshakes, and we're on our way.

The word last night at the Subdudes show was they will start slowing things down. Some folks were saying they are shutting down.
So, I asked Steve Amedee if there was any truth to the rumors. He gave me kind of a non answer. He said they will keep playing if the money is right. I guess they will quit playing smaller venues but their website still has several dates listed at smaller clubs. He did say they are playing JF 1st Friday.

Does anyone have more info on this?

I scarfed a ride and made the last 45 min of this JF R & Bowl set. They did indeed totally rock out. Johnny RAy sat in on bass so it was the original 4 crankin' it up. They did a couple of real old ones 1 st or 2nd album I'd never heard live. It was as raucus as I'd heard them since Tommy was itching to get out and lay rock and roll when the band broke up in the 90's.
Sorry to hear they are slowing down. Jeez, the Rads then this.

We caught them last night in VT and got some mixed signals as well. Steve did confirm that they would still be playing some dates, but a lot of them may be private gigs. Jimmy couldn't seem to wait to get home for an extended period. To paraphrase a song, he was kidding "Why do his dogs bark when he comes around."

In talking with John about the new Twins project, I asked about a CD and he said that would be about a year away. That sounds like some long term planning.

On a food note, I had ordered a Cajun Kringle from Haydel and they couldn't stop raving about it; neither could I. I should have ordered two.
