Please let the old "For The Grids" thread die ... use this one

Thanks,
DankBass

Everything in the grids is current based off of emails Ive received, and comments from the other thread. If anyone wants to check against Pollstar or Jambase feel free to.

I still prefer emails, but I'll always check here too

You're doing a great job Dank! Having fun yet? :D

Just wait until the real madness begins!

FYI - I did some double-checking yesterday and it looked like the grids were up to date. I compared to pollstar, ticketmaster, ticket web and various club sites.

If someone isn't seeing the most current info, they may need to clear out their cache.

Since Dank asked we move the convo here, I wanted to repost this info about 2nd Sunday night at Tips and say OH MY GAWD!!! I cannot WAIT for this show :) :)

MORE INFO (background)

The Trio

Featuring Johnny Vidacovich, George Porter Jr., Theresa Andersson, June Yamagishi, Trombone Shorty and Ivan Neville

"For nearly three years, Johnny Vidacovich and George Porter Jr. have been inviting musicians to team up with them as a trio. Backed by two of New Orleans premiere musicians (I am very hesitant to call them a rhythm section--they are much more than that), the revolving third slot has been filled by a Who's Who of New Orleans, including Eric Traub (Dr. John), Mark Mullins (Mulebone, Harry Connick Jr.), Tony Degradi (Astral Project), John Gros (Papa Grows Funk), Nicholas Payton, Clarence Johnson III (Runnin Pardners), Brian Stoltz (funky Meters), Tab Benoit, and David Torkanowsky (Astral Project), as well as non-New Orleanian Luther Dickinson (North Mississippi Allstars). Most often, and according to Porter most comfortably, the slot has been filled by June Yamagishi (Papa Grows Funk). When Yamagishi joins Porter and Vidacovich, it's not just a trio--it's The Trio" - Jeffrey P. Dupuis (Jambase.com)

Most will sell out by the time fest rolls around. STS9 should sell out soon! They are the only tix I have purchased so far exc for mofro, Anders & Eric Lindell even though that show will not sell out. All of the late shows will sell out (exc. maybe Galactic)

McGregor, I'm not 100% positive, but I think the idea is something along these lines. NOSC is a group of NOLA musicians. I believe it can be a rather "fluid" group. There is a CD called "Sing Me Back Home" that I have and love by NOSC. There is a variety of artists on this CD that include: Dr. John, Irma Thomas, Marcia Ball, several of the Nevilles, John Boutte' and many others.
I think it is just a name they have come up with for when a group of them want to get together and play. If any, a combination of, or all of them were to show up at the Howlin' Wolf, it would be an outstanding show.
That's what I think NOSC is, anyone else have a better/different explaination?

Underdug, I tried to click on the HW link for the 2nd weekend show and I got an error message, so I'm not sure what's up with them. HW is a good sized venue. I'm not sure how many it holds, but it's basically a huge room, not much seating, with a bar in the back. I would say, standing room for prolly 750 to 1000 souls. But that's a guess.....

Leo was one of the original members of the METERS.

He started with Art Neville & the Hawkettes.

The Hawkettes evolved into the METERS, which also included George Porter Jr. and Joseph “Ziggy” Modeliste. Nocentelli’s career includes session work for a number of artists, including Peter Gabriel, “Digging in the Dirt”; Earl King; Dr. John Lee Dorsey; Patti LaBelle, “Lady Marmelade”; as well as the Wild Tchoupitoulas, an offshoot of the Meters. Leo has also played on recordings by Manhattan Transfer, the Temptations, Stevie Wonder, the Supremes, Bonnie Raitt, Sting, and the Winans, among several others.

The Wild Mag's website shows them playing on Saturday, April 28 as a "jazz fest kickoff" at 10 pm at Handa Wanda's.

Then they're also appearing at the RnB with Kermit and Bonerama starting at 9.

Poor Dank is the one who has to format each one for the grids. He's going to have to be a computer geek this weekend!

Like I've said before, I love searching for stuff, just hated updating the grids. Dank says he's the opposite. We'll see if he feels the same way a month from now.

I could have just showed up, taken in some stuff and missed so much! Special gifts for you all! By the way when you all started the thread on the Baseball game, I thought you all played one!!! So much tradition with you all, just hope I get to meet some of you, to put the name with the face! Except Barb, I will just look for my face with brown eyes. Anyone know anything about "in-store'' performances? I believe Tower Records has closed even in NOLA? If so, that is a huge loss. We started to go to more "in store'' performances last year, and really got hooked on the vibe. Also, just so I know how to keep track, are things being added to the grids without an entry in the "what's new'' list? I used to use that to keep track.
Finally, thank you all so much to the people who do all this work. I recognize it as a labor of love, but that doesn't negate the fact that it involves a lot of labor...:)

Here is a copy of a list I sent to Dan to help "fill in the blanks" regarding grid info. this was compiled over the past week or so using local music ads and listngs, the internet and some info that orleansnj had sent to Dan a few weeks ago. The most intriguing venue to me is the Sugar Mill, which has a capcity of 3,000. There have only been two shows there post-K, both in the past four weeks (Hinder and Aaron Lewis of Staind) and both sold out. There is a rumor going around that Greenday will play there in May. I can thin of a number of fest performers I would like to see in that venue. Anyway, since we are waiting to be cubed, this should give ya'll a little distraction...

Are you thinking of Tips Ruins? I saw the Rads there once.

http://www.tipitinas.com/Events/facilities/ruins.html

Man, that year they booked music at all 3 locations - Ruins, FQ & Uptown. I never made it to the ruins, but wish I had.

I know - I'm really torn. On one hand three of my all time favorites all on one night, at the hot-damn R&B - Wild Maggies, Kermit & Bonerama. Whew.

But hearing so much about the Underdawgs . . . .

But - they will be at the Patry too.

but . . .

IKIMS!

(I know I'm missing something)
I know lol! We'll see what the lineup turns out to be at Ray's....maybe we can do both? Would love to have the girls at least see the Wild Maggie's but I don't want to pay $20 for each club! Not sure how much Ray's is gonna be....Underdawgs are first for me...my kid has a huge crush on Shamarr lol.

I remember the Rads at Tip's Ruins. I think the Ruins existed for two years but only had shows for fest, MG and Sugar Bowl. Someone told me they saw Duran Duran at the Sugar Mill before Katrina, but I only recall them playing at TwiRoPa, which is still closed. It seems that there are a lot of clubs/bars gearing up for fest, many more than last year! The April Offbeat will be out any day and I expect there will be more shows to post from it.

I can vouch for the many new clubs this year ... Ive been adding ALOT, places Ive never even heard of until this week

Thanks to EVERYONE who has been sending me club info, I'll get Phone Numbers and Addresses updated when I get the listings stabilized (still sittin on a pretty good chunk of listings to add but we're almost there)

4/24-5/2 is pretty complete ... just finished daze. I'll get second weekend tomorrow night

Well there are certainly more clubs than I bargained for, especially compared to old grids that I pulled up from swag's site, just look at the length of the first weekend page!! It's all good though :)

The other add is so amazing that I'm not allowed to tell. Someone clever may be able to figure it out, but really, really, I'm not allowed to tell.
