Just received this email from Jon Cleary....

sounds like a great new adventure for Jon - I can only imagine how intense their sound will be !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

- plus, if I was in town, I would definitely be at the Tipitina's show on the 26th.

"Jon Cleary will performing with his new group, Piano, Bass & Drums at the original Tipitina's Uptown on Saturday, September 26 at 10 PM, with young-gun trumpeter Shamarr Allen and his group The Underdawgs opening the show. The new trio features Lafayette-native Doug Belote (Larry Carlton, Jerry Douglas) on drums, multi-instrumentalist Matt Perrine (Bonerama, Nightcrawler, Stanton Moore), on upright bassist, and JC on acoustic piano. Cleary returns back to Tip's for the first time since 2007. This will be "A Serious Night of Funk!"

He is also going to be at d.b.a on Thursdays in October, (James Singleton will be on bass for those shows), at Gretna Fest October 4th, and on WWOZ this Friday at noon (sept 25th) (new orleans time - central)

I caught the new group in Rochester NY in June. I love AMG, but these guys were fantastic. It's still the "Cleary sound" but in a whole new way.

I wondered how much the Piety Street project was going to pull Jon in a different direction - the Scofield show in the blues tent just floored me, and the guitar duel with Jon & Scofield was a trip. One of my big let-downs was the reaction one of my bass player friends had after hearing the CD. Something about Scofield and the backing players phoning it in... How the hell could a working musician not appreciate what was happening on that recording? What's that tag line on Rosie's posts?

Just saw the Piety Steet Band open the Blues Afternoon at the Monterey Jazz Festival last weekend. Great to see the boys from NOLA (Shannon Powell, Roland Guerin and Jon) on that historic stage supporting one of the best guitarists going. They kicked ass and were very well received and Scofield played beautifully, the highlight being a transcendent take on the Hank Williams tune "Angel Of Death", great on the CD, as well.
