Ernie 'K-Doe' Kador: Emperor's clothes up for sale

By MARY FOSTER, Associated Press Writer

NEW ORLEANS – Hundreds of glittery, gemstone-studded suits belonging to the late New Orleans rhythm and blues musician Ernie "K-Doe" Kador and his wife Antoinette are going up for sale.

The suits in a rainbow of colors, accented with braids and sequins, will be sold starting Saturday.

The couple's daughter, Betty Fox, says the suits, Antoinette's gowns, and "Ernie K-Doe For Mayor" T-shirts are reasonably priced for fans of the colorful New Orleans personality.

Ernie K-Doe had proclaimed himself "The Emperor of the Universe" and wore outlandish capes and suits in the years before he died in 2001.

His wife Antoinette, who died Feb. 24 on Mardi Gras day, launched New Orleans' famous Mother-in-Law Lounge in 1996. It was heavily damaged by hurricane Katrina in 2005.

Wow! I wonder if they're going to be sold online?

I really wish somebody would step in and protect this stuff because I have a feeling it's going to be really special in a few years...

Besides the cost of the shirt and postage I will shower you w/gifts from the islands. Please email me at smuchaway at yahoo.com. I'm dying to see what type of stuff they may have. One persons junk is another mans treasure!!!

Seems like a job for the RnR HOF or Hard Rock Cafe. Does the NOLA Museum have a costume collection??

Sale info (via Offbeat)

Saturday morning, there will be a yard sale at the Mother-in-Law Lounge. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., many remnants of Antoinette and Ernie K- Doe's life - including clothes - will be for sale, along with souvenirs. Some of the best, however, is being kept for the K-Doe mannequin.

I saw this too. Something kind of sad and creepy calling it "remnants" of their lives.
