I just found out about this and I don't think anybody posted but this man was something, responsible for 2 of the greatest rock n roll songs ever, 'Red Hot' and 'Flying Saucers Rock n Roll'. Had the pleasure of seeing him and getting to shake his hand outdoors at Lincoln Center and at the Ponderosa Stomp in 2003. What a lineup that night. Billy Lee, Dale Hawkins, DJ Fontana, James Burton, Scotty Moore, Tony Joe White, Paul Burlison and guest shots from Kim Wilson and Big Sandy.

RIP, indeed! I only found out about Billy after getting hooked on the Robert Gordon & Link Wray versions of Billy's hits (the added vocals were a nice touch!), then catching the next wave with the Stray Cats' versions. Rockabilly will never die!
