They have tickets to the Cubs game tomorrow for $1.49 each. I know the Cubs stink, but what is the catch?

$1.49 tickets - $20 service charge. ;)

I've used Stub Hub, usually you pay more but in this economy with a not so good team ..........

Out here, Dodger tickets are on Goldstar @ 1/2 price.

I used Stubhub for Saints tix 2 years ago and again this week for FG. Transactions went smoothly.

The usual service charge on Stubhub is 10% (which makes them cheaper than TM) plus a flat $12 shipping. For last minute tickets, though, I guess the shipping is higher.

BTW, Swagland is a stubhub affiliate (http://jazzfest.swagland.com/thanks.html), though on a $1.49 ticket, the commission probably won't buy a piece of gum...

I've used stubhub here in NY; no problems!

I ate my first bleacher ticket of the season on Thursday.
I told my friends if they couldn't dump my Monday ticket, to go out and come back in on my ticket and get an extra bobblehead! They stink and everyone has moved on to Cutler and Da Bears.

Oh one more thing, the tshirt giveaway on Sunday was a stubhub shirt that read "game never sold out"

I've bought and sold Cubs tickets and it has gone very well, Mr. Weenietent.

BTW, I failed at convincing my wife I should go tonight so I worked out instead.

stubhub protects the buyer & the seller, while making a tidy profit for themselves. sellers give 15% of the asking price, buyer gives 10% of the asking price. plus they charge a fee for printing the tickets at home.

but you can sometimes get great seats below cost, or a guaranteed seat to a sold out event.
and sellers can ask any price they think they can get. missouri now allows proces to be over face - illinois has allowed this for some time.

the 1.49 may be an auction entry price.

Stu just bought tckts to the Saints vs Giants game at the dome in October on Stubhub. He got them in the mail, and the seller included his email address saying "if you want tickets to any further games contact me directly and we'll both avoid the Stubhub fees". So if your'e looking for Saint tickets for any of the other games besides the Giants, let me know and I can give you the guys email. (these are premium seats, right behind the visiting team bench)

StubHub sucks. It is legalized scalping.

Well, so is TicketMaster but sometimes you just don't have a choice.

No, TicketBastard just has outrageous fees but the ticket is sold at face value. StubHub sells tickets at double the face value if they can get away with it.

Technically, yes. But it still feels the same. Those fees are just legal scalping as well.

There is a difference between paying a $12 fee on a $50 ticket and paying an extra $50 on a $50 ticket.

Stubhub, like Ticketmaster, makes it's money from fees. If someone sells a $12 ticket on Stubhub for $50, the amount of the markup is decided by the seller, and the seller gest most of the profits (the buyer will pay $55; stubhub collects $12.50, the seller gets $42.50).

Yes, it's scalping. Stubhub isn't the scalper, merely the facilitator. And Ticketmaster has it's own scalping service, called TicketExchange, which operates a lot like Stubhub.

Yes it is the facilitator, but without StubHub scalping would be a lot more difficult. I still say legalized scalping when I pay $110 for a $50 Red Sox ticket.

If you can make it over from the other side of the parking lot......;) We had some ice cold Abita waiting last time and we had to drink it ourselves!

Then don't.

BTW, Stubhubs fees are a much lower % of the ticket price than Ticketmonster.

stubhub does Not set the price. the seller sets the price.
sometimes tickets are listed under cost (which is often below face value for season tickets). no one seems to feel sorry for the seller when they (me) take a loss.

supply v demand. that's what determines price. if you want to drive down the price, dont purchase them above face value.

street scalpers and strangers on craigslist could be selling you a counterfeit ticket. stubhub guarantees your purchase.

yes, its legalized scalping.
but then so is investing in art or a house only because you expect the value to appreciate and you can make money.
