On Friday, while waiting in line for the Wrigley bleachers, I was discussing the upcoming "anniversary" with several people. My friend Donna, a professor at National Louis University, discussed the contributions their students made in NOLA over the summer. I wanted to share the beautiful email & link she forwarded me earlier today.
Dear Colleagues
Today we are reminded that four years ago 2 monstrous hurricanes devastated the southeastern states and destroyed Gulf cities. The work in New Orleans is progressing slowly, but progressing, and the people are hopeful, cheerful and thankful for the service of volunteers. Over 60 members of the NLU community have traveled to NOLA since the summer of 2007. Everywhere we go and every time we mention the work we are doing with the NOLA public schools, we are showered with hugs and appreciation. A major focus in rebuilding the city and bringing back families to the city is the reopening and / or rebuilding of its schools.
I hope you enjoy the attached blog with the reflections and pictures from this summer’s 2 teams. And if you should have a student in your class who participated in NOLA this summer, please ask them to share their personal experience with you.
