It's not something I will ever forget. My brother's family lost their home, but luckily not their lives, We had no contact with them for over two days, and my nephew for four, he left late, so we weren't sure if he made it out... my heart goes out to all the victims and the survivors...Cindee

Today is my day without music. My thoughts are with all of those on the Gulf Coast who continue to struggle from the events of 4 years ago. I'll miss being down there to help you all this November.

Great version...Great Sorrow...

When do we really get serious about helping one of the world's greatest cities and cultures avoid another crippling blow?
We built faulty levees.
We let the wetlands get washed away in our lifetimes.
We've got to fix it.

Other than seeing my children come into this world there are 3 major events that I will NEVER, EVER forget and 8/29/2005 is one of them. The Columbine massacre and 9/11 being the other 2.

GOD BLESS NEW ORLEANS!!!

It's been a pretty emotional week here...just having strange reactions to things completely unrelated to The Thing to where you think "WTF is my problem??". But I guess anniversaries of bad events trigger emotional reactions to everything else.

Much love to all of you...I will never forgot the outpouring of love and support on this board. Threadheads are incredible.

So well said Amers!

Just spoke with Mama in Waveland and she cried when she heard my voice. She said, "Oh baby, I am so glad that you will never forget all that was lost that day"

I'm remembering. Saw "When the Levees Broke" again last night on HBO. Heartbreaking, still.

Hoping that things continue to improve in NOLA, and that the lessons learned won't soon be forgotten.

I've never been able to watch that. I've rented it twice, but each time I put it in the machine and watch a few minutes, I think "I know how this ends...and it's not good." and I turn it off. Maybe one day...

Ross, the ending is always the same:(((
Maybe one day we will have a renaissance and the film makers can do an update and the ending will change!

I don't think the ending has been written yet. Parts 1 and 2 of When the Levees Broke cover the storm and the horrid week that followed. That's done. But 3 & 4 cover the post-storm efforts to rebuild and come home. Last night at Susan Cowsill's Dallas gig, I met a woman who lives in Gentilly. But she's been in Dallas for 4 years now, still trying to get her home in Gentilly rebuilt. As long as there are pre-storm residents still trying to get back to New Orleans, the ending is still to come.

Amy, I echo that sentiment. I was pretty much a depressed, irrational zombie most of the weekend. Last year most of us here didn't have time to reflect on 8/29/05 since we were evacuated for Gustav and worrying about THAT one. So maybe this year we got a double dose of the 8/29 blues....

I'd also like to add my thanks and love to all of you who have shown so much love and support to those of us here in N.O. Threadheads rock.

We love you locals. Grief is a long long process. Having each other (even across the world) really makes the difference.

I'm kind of glad to hear others were also 'angsty' this weekend. Depressed would also be a word to describe it...

Tired, and touchy, for little or no reason.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not really 'glad' yall were feeling it as well. But I was wondering: Is it just me?

Sigh.

Still: We have each other, and if that's what it takes to get through this life in one piece, I'll give thanks for that.

Big time thanks.

p.s. Listened to 'Box Who In' a lot this weekend... that helped too. :)
Has anyone ever noticed how good Shamarr is? Yall should tell me about things like that...
