It could be the Hampton Inn. Technicaly it is on Carondelete - but I have seen them advertise as Canal and Bourbon. I have friends who stayed there before - not a bad place three years ago.

If it's a "mystery" hotel, it's probably the Astor Crowne Plaza. It's been showing up that way on the discount hotel sites. I'm staying there soon and I'll let you know how it is. A friend in NOLA said it's a "bad ass hotel, take it" when I said I could get a deal on it.

The Hampton is on Carondelet about 2 blocks from Bourbon.

The Astor Crowne Plaza is on Bourbon & Canal.

If you're seeing it on EasyClick as "off the record", with hotelId=5009 in the URL, that is in fact the Astor Crowne Plaza. Currently available @ $91 1st weekend; on request $98 2nd weekend. EasyClick hotels are also usually refundable, even the opaque off-the-record ones, so if for any reason we're wrong on the hotel identity, you can cancel, nothing lost.

Likewise!! =)

I may try to swing in for FQF...will depend on how crazy w*rk is. Oh, let me know if you and David are free for dinner before/during/after the fest this year. I'm coming in on Wednesday, so that should give me a chance to get at least one good meal in before the madness starts!!

The Astor Crowne Plaza is about four years old and it is very nice. It was built in conjunction with the Bourbon House restaurant and I believe that the restaurant serves as the hotel kitchen. For $98 a night, you could do a lot worse!

Hey Now Stayed at the Crowne Plaza 2 weeks ago. A really! upscale property and also a central location. For under 150$ per night, I think you would be doing pretty well. Almost a little TOO fancy for my tastes, but sometimes its nice to splurge!!! Good Luck, Matthew

My friend Norb stayed there a couple of years ago and loved it. As a point of reference, in past years, he has stayed at the Omni, Hyatt, Intercontinental and Monteleone in NOLA.

I think you did great & you'll be pleased!

It is definitely the Astor Crowne Plaza. I just booked the first weekend. I will know in a couple of days if they have accepted my booking.

I stayed at the Astor Crowne for the Saints-Falcons Monday night game. I thought it was nice. I would stay there again. In fact, I might book for 1st weekend (i have an apartment on N. Peters near Iberville 2nd weekend).

I posted this elsewhere, but we booked Astor Crowne Plaza for 11 nights on easyclicktravel for an average nightly rate of just over $90. Compared to anything else we were looking at from this distance (NZ) it looked like a fantastic deal.
So look forward to hooking up with some of the posters here soon!

Hell of a DEAL!!!

Hi O...........

Helluva' deal this far out,... just found the same offer (yes swag,.. I used your link you persis-tent beer hound) BUT there is just one little itsy bitsy problem.... No real understanding if it's a real offer or not... Went to book it and the response said in effect "We'll let you know in a few days if the deal actually exists"... Pretty silly concept,.. dangle a nice big happy carrot,.. you go for it,.. and the carrot may or may not be a real thing...

On the bright side if it isn't real I will probably get a better deal down the road through Priceline (have paid less for at least the last five years,.. never more than a $100 a night before that),.. but I wouldn't mind puttin' the thing in the "done deal" column here and now (although now is now a big "maybe",.. nothing but a big tease for now)....

Thanks for the heads up Hero,.. love the price and the location.... "maybe" see ya' there Mariena,.. (if they decide the deal actually exists).... Went to the hotels own website and they seem to be booked for the first weekend... Will know in the next few days,... I guess..... As an easyclick virgin,.. this is a pretty goofy system.....

stlbarb, ours was indeed a firm rate of US$90 plus taxes. Its already hit the Amex card.
But I get the impression the second weekend may not be available now.

EasyClick hotels are listed as either Available or On Request.

If they are Available, it's an instant booking like any other online reservation system. If they are On Request, that means that the inventory that EasyClick had access to or reserved is depleted, and someone from EasyClick will have to contact the hotel to ask for more inventory. That's a manual process, which is why it can take a day or three. It seems to be about 50-50 whether On Request ressies can be filled.

If they do fill it, they will charge your account then. So once the charge hits your credit card, you can count on the reservation being a done deal.

One hint - they are not always as quick as they should be to let you know the results. But you can log onto your EasyClick account, click to the My Account page, and view the reservation status there. Often you may see the result there a day or two before you get the email.

I have not yet received my email confirmation, but I did as Swag suggested and logged on to my account section on their website. Then clicked on details and the status has changed from request to confirm. I am assuming that means I am in. Which is great because it saves me over $200 for the first weekend. I am going to see if I can get 2nd weekend too. We are not doing daze in between because we have to work. Thanks, Swag. Bye the way, I used the link on your website.

Ya' might say that,... and now (peanut roll please),... the nut is in da' house............................

Great location,... an incredible price without the need to bid,... and one funky system = !!!!!!!

Anybody travelin' from the New Z-land or Aussie way is welcome at any time to make a stop over in our fantastic spot in Southwest Florida... I got me a far better half who prepares and plates heavenly pleasures (I make the drinks and clean up afterwards),.. then there's a boat that brings us to the best fishies,.. beaches,.. and sea shells,.. a heated pool and hot tub,.. and there are plenty of extra rooms to pass out in.... And we even got lil' fancy dancin' marsupials to remind you of back home... Don'tcha worry none,.. they got their own room...

I gladly extend the open welcome to honor the fact that it was actually an Aussie who introduced us to the fest 11 years ago,.. and we haven't missed a one since.... Jillian Foster by way of Tasmania,.. just Jill mostly,.. and she found (and instantly got) New Orleans many years before we were lucky enough to meet her.... One of a kind that Jill,... so incredibly smart and down right decent,.. and so very cool all the way through.... Love the Jill................

The check list just needs a few extra nuts and an extra big bottle of Cuervo,... Oh,.. and party time is comin' to dat big ol' house in New Orleans......

Thanks again Hero!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm pretty sure if the status has changed from Request to Confirm that you're good to go, and will likely get an email in the next day or two. You can always check your credit card to see if it's been charged.

EasyClick is a bit less automated than the others, so there are sometimes kinks, but the fact that it's less opaque and cancellable is a huge plus, when the deals do pop up.

And one other good thing about EasyClick: You can actually pick up the phone and call them, and be talking to a person in under 2 minutes. Don't try that with Priceline. So, like I said, you should be good to go, but if it'll make you feel better than waiting for the email, call 'em up and just ask if the res. is now fully confirmed.

....for the kind offer on Florida. Would love to, but we're doing a real "hit and run" this year, arriving in NOLA late on the Thursday night of first weekend and heading out on the Monday morning 7th - longest leave pass I could get!!
Had actually considered heading to Florida for the dayz between, but felt the distances looked a bit big for only four days so we booked all 11 nights at the ACP.
Look forward to hooking up tho', and who knows, maybe a goer for '08...

A goer for 08,.. 09,.. or beyond,.. you're more than welcome anytime you care to stop on by,... but try to do it before the summer of 2010.....

We have been discussin' movin' to New Zealand for a few years now,... our goal is to let our daughter finish high school (3 years, 3 months and countin') and then pack up and check out the other side of the world..... Was hoping to see New Zealand and Aussie land some 22 years ago,.. stopped in to check out Maui on my way,.. and found myself livin' a life I didn't want to leave.... Now these many years later still livin' by salt water and still waitin' to watch the H2O go down the drain counter clockwise.....

Good one PaulC. Maybe I can answer any questions you have about NZ over a beer (or three). I live in Auckland and am travelling with another Kiwi mate who is based in Wellington. This is my third JF, so every chance I'll be back again before 2010! Done a lot of travelling in the US, but never got to Florida, so it's very tempting....
