a few of us our planning on taking in a baseball game 'tween weekends.
its fun & cheap. the Zephyrs are a AAA affiliate of the Mets. they play in the Pacific Coast League and will be playing the Round Rock Express. and Wednesday's are $1 hotdogs! the game starts at 11:30, and will probably be over around 2 or 2:30. so you still have some afternoon time before you have to start thinking about evening gigs. www.zephyrsbaseball.com
the stadium is on Airline Drive, between Kenner & Metairie (burbs, not streets). its a whole $3 per car to park. not sure if there's public transportation other than cabs. i'll try to find out - and read further down about transporation. we'll find a way to get everybody there.
with it being a day game i would think we can get a group of seats together day of game. so hard to judge numbers in advance. maybe they would set an area aside for us and just let folks buy as we want - some in advance, some day of. so we need to know if there is 6 of us or 60. i'll get in contact with them - unless someone already has a relationship with someone who works for the Zephyrs?
so let me/us know if you're a maybe or a definite. how many in your group. do you need transportation or can you provide transportation for other or would you like to share a cab or other public tansit. what part of town you'll be coming from. post here and/or email me.
and wear your favorite team's hat &/or shirt that day.
info for folks who might want a different day (i love Zatarains Zaturdays):
Mon, Apr. 30 - 7:00pm Round Rock
Tues, May 1 - 7:00pm Round Rock
Wed, May 2 - 11:30am Round Rock Weenie Wednesday / DARE Day
Thurs, May 3 - 7:00pm Round Rock Thirsty Thursday / College Night / Concert
Fri, May 4 - 7:00pm Iowa FIREWORKS / Meet the Mets WNOE
Sat, May 5 - 6:00pm Iowa Zatarains Zaturday / Hall of Fame Night Zatarains
Boyscout Expo / KC Pool Party 12-2
Sun, May 6 - 2:00pm Iowa Kids Day / Fellowship Day ($5 tkt w/ church bulletin) Capital One/Radio Disney
Mon, May 7 - 12:00pm Iowa School Day

Hey Barb
That sounds pretty cool...don't know if I am volunteering for anything this year (well, except Ms Lena's) but I was chatting with Zydekitty last year about how catching a Zephyr's game would be great. Love the minor league games. I'll send you an email shortly.

our motto at work "NEVER VOLUNTEER".
Ms. Lena's would be a good exception.

Yeah, I only volunteer unless it is for a good cause.
I joke all the time that the last time I volunteered for anything I ended up in the Marines.

i thought the hubbie was making the trip this year. i'm starting to think you've done him in.
funkjunkkie = Vicki, or is that a secret?
i'm not organizing anything but information. and coordinating some transportation. how hard can that be (she says naively)?

Yup - Funkjunkkie-Vickie.
And I keep telling Joe that everybody thinks he's a figment of my imagination! He's just gigging a lot now. But I have decided that Fest 2008 is going to be his triumphant return, even if I have to kidnap him.

You know you can count me in since all I can see here is the Lynchburg Hillcats (single A ball). Still miss the Cardinals (woohoo).
Besides, you're going to need a designated driver, as usual.

Just north of Austin TX. Home to Dell computers, and one of my favorite BBQ joints, Coopers.
The Round Rock Express is owned by Nolan Ryan.

You know hubby and I are definitely in!! We've been talking about this for a while and thought it could be a fun group activity. Thanx for starting the thread.
If it looks like we will be a group of at least 20, I'll contact the Zephyrs about their Group deal. Name on the Scoreboard, tshirts, etc.
Let me know - ckobrin@pacbell.net

the problem with the group thing is i'm afraid we may have to commit to a number. find out if we can add to the group on day of game.
i was thinking we'd see about sitting out in the levee area. only $6 tickets.

i didnt want to commit you (except to an institution) until you check the in-store (not longer plural). you can drop me off at Ingrid's and go see Marcia, then come back. don't forget to let the yankee fans out of the trunk.

I would think if the group thing applied to the levee area it wouldn't matter since there are no assigned seats there correct? If they need a commitment by a certain time you could give it to them for however many people you have and any spur of the moment TH's would be able to join the fun but they wouldn't get the T-Shirt or whatever other perks there may be. You could put me down for the group thing even though I'm not definite yet just cause I want the T- Shirt!

I'm not committed to Marcia. I'm going to play it loose.
I hate to commit to anything this far in advance. You never know what kind of super groovy event might come up...

what could be groovier than going to the ball game with us? :)
i agree, that's why i hope to keep it open ended, so folks can decide at the last minute to come - but you might be on your own to get there.

3 in for a possible maybe
need a ride/transportation? what part of town?
I'm local and can provide transportation for 3 or 4.
I gotta say, however, that the levee can be iffy. If we've had r*** it can be wet and muddy out there, or closed altogether (I think maybe they only sell tickets out there day-of-game). Plus you can have ants, mosquitoes etc. out there, and there's no shade if it is a hot day. Some of the seats in the stadium do provide shade. I'm just saying these are things to consider; I wouldn't rule anything out at this point.
They do have a pool out behind the Right Field fence but I'm not sure about the numbers you need to reserve that (or the cost). I've always wanted to catch a home run while floating on a raft and drinking a cold cold beer out there!

we always rent a minivan, so we're fine with transportation (might even be able to bring a few)

The game is at a different time, so the early planning seems to be that the Threadhead Nation will do both events!!! Go to Rosy's and then parade over to Zephyr Field for the game (maybe even kidnapy Rosy and Mrs. Rosy and take them too . . .) ;)

Kittykat: I would love to be kidnapped, but that is probably the worst day for it!!! I am going to be open regular hours so the Threadheads who got in late from the Patry and slept in can still come ovah. I also have to be packed up to go out to the Fairgrounds the next day, so I have to take a rain-check on the "kidnapping" ;)
Amy...thanks for thinking of me....I will post a formal invite to the Threadhead nation when we get a little closer....:D

Damn, foiled again!!!
Seriously, Rosy - I can completely understand the pressures on you and we'll miss you at the game, but will be SO very happy to see you at your gala event (assuming I can mooch a ride over there from the Bywater)!!

I have been to see the Zephyrs a couple of times over the years in between Jazzfest weekends. It's a nice little stadium. The 11:30am start time is because it is Schoolkids Day, but even with all the kids, I don't ever remember not getting a good seat. I have gotten there using the airport bus, which runs right along that road and stops right by the stadium. I know that bus runs downtown and it also goes right by Rock n Bowl. Bus schedules are available at the Library, which is at Tulane and Basin, I think. If I happen to be around that day, I'd be interested, but I'm not sure what my schedule is going to be yet.

when i looked at the bus schedules, it seemed that you would have to take 2 different busses because you cross 2 different transit service areas. there is a bus that will take you there from Tulane & Carrolton - but it does not come into the 1/4. we can look more later. it sounds like we may be able to car pool everyone.

I thought that bus went all the way downtown on Tulane to the point where it is only a couple of blocks away from Canal and the French quarter, but I might be wrong. And you're right, I think you might have to pay two fares on the same bus, one getting on, one getting off, but it's still WAY cheaper than any sort of taxi, which is bound to cost close to $20. Obviously though, a car pool or group taxi could bring that cost down
