Well I'll be handing her one in spirit......and rooting like mad from Joisey. And I'm sure she'll fill you all in but I think it's a half-marathon which is 13 miles. I don't know if she's doing that or if there are other races that day. Sometimes they have different distances running at the same time. Whatever....it's still great and we're sending Threadhead spirit your way and some COLD CRISP REFRESHING ABITA!!!

It's a HALF, definitely a HALF!!! Yall are so sweet! It's 13.1 miles and it's Sunday morning at 7 sharp. Ouch. The weather was looking really really crappy but now they've changed their minds and it looks like all the r*&^ should end during the night tomorrow AND they've dropped the temp a bit. Supposed to be low 50's which is perfect. It was funny cause earlier in the week they said 60% chance of r*** early Sunday morning and temp in the low 70s. Jimmy said, "Well, there's still a 40% chance it won't r$#@ and since they're wrong 80% of the time, the odds are in your favor if you think about it." Too funny.

So anyway, YES, I'm doing it so I'm taking it easy this weekend till then. Just a couple of Abitas tonight and some healthy pasta (Jenn? Recipe?) tomorrow night. Then Sunday I'll be jogging just ahead of the street sweepers.

Thanks so much yall!

Go 4 it, Amy! As one who has "gone the distance" in a few of these events, I know that just the fact that you're out there is awesome enough, so run like the wind (and don't take any "foreign substances"...until after the race, that is!;) ). Ruuunn, Amy, Ruuuunnn!

Hey Amyloves,
I would love to hear your perspective about the run once it is over. I am training for one in September. I am not sure that I can do it, but I am going to try. It will be a trip of a lifetime for me. I am going to visit my mother's family in Germany and my husband and I will run the Berlin Marathon. He has run several marathons before but this will be my first. I am nervous and excited about it.

Hey all....well I finished the F'ing half marathon. Started off great (for me) but crashed and burned during mile 7. Don't know what was wrong! REAL bad nausea, two blisters, and loss of my mojo I guess. I didn't train nearly as much as I should have but more than last year. However, last year was after The Thing and mostly fixing my house and I thought I could conquer the world! Man, when you get down emotionally it just rips you up where you feel like you're working so hard and have zero left in you. It's mind over matter really but I struggled and couldn't overcome it. Finished slightly better than last year, but last year I felt great and hung back because one of my buddies was struggling bad. This year they were good and I wasn't. I kept telling one of them who felt great to go ahead and he would yell, "I'm not leavin my wing man!!" I will do it again next year and will do better.

Mariena....lostcajun ran the full marathon here two years ago. I haven't done a full one but I can definitely tell you that you will not regret it. Funny thing...one guy with us doing his first half-mar (that we talked him into) wasn't feeling too much better than me. We got to the end and we're having a beer and he said, "I feel good that I did it but I can't decide if the running over the last couple of months and the last 2.5 hours was worth the good feeling. But I like to do stuff I've never done before." Literally like 6 minutes later he says, "HEY, next year, let's train and do the full marathon." The other two of us were like, "WTF is in HIS beer????" So it's a definite accomplishment even if you're reeeeeeal slow.

Thanks to all of you for your support and TH love.

Don't you dare feel bad!!!
You set a goal that you did not get, so what did you do???You ran/walked a freakin' 1/2 marathon..that's all!!! I'm sure that there are many of us who would love to be able to crash and burn after 7 miles...7 miles, I get tired doing 7 miles in a CAR!!!! ;)
You did a great job, you've had your highs and your lows...you learn from every experience...next year will be great....!!!

02-25-2007, 01:56 PM
Yall are so damn sweet. I came home and my 13 y.o. came out to the car all happy and HEY how'd you do?? and I just got SO choked up and emotional. It was so stupid but I'm telling you the emotions kick your butt! She was such a trip, "Mom, crying doesn't solve anything" (my words back in my face). She was such a sweetheart and asking me what happened, etc. I tell you, it's that I didn't like being the slow person in the group. Didn't care one lick about hanging back the last two years for the other slow person, it was that I didn't like it when I was the one holding them up. You know? SO, I just need to get over myself!

i am really impressed. its great that you finished and i even greater that you want to do it again next year. i have run 3 full marathons (26.2 miles) the last 3 years- believe me everyone the .1 and .2 matter- and i can relate to your overwhelming feelings after completion. the first one i ran when the starting gun went off i was running and crying for the first 1/2 mile when i finally told myself to get it together because i had a lot of running to do and needed my energy. my son was 2 when i did my first one and he ran the last 3 blocks with me. i have some pictures on myspace here http://www.myspace.com/mjtand if anyone is interested.

way to go again and hope you do it again.

I bow to you my dear friend. Ok, this is the deal, we run the half-marathon next year together!!!! I can barely run three right now, but you, Paul (I'm guessing he ran with you), and I will kick ass for the 1/2 next year. And the cool thing is that we will freaking laugh for all 13.1 miles. You are an inspiration.

Yall are NUTS!! Lostcajun....got your text and message and now on here and you're loopy my friend. Paul didn't run w/ me but just called and he had already talked to Jimmy. He said, "Sometimes you just don't have it. But you finished!" I'd love it if you were here next year. And hey....mariena up there asked about marathons so help her out. Gawd 13.1 is SO freaking long, it's hard for me to imagine doing double that.

Fester, thanks so much. I couldn't open your pics though!

MGbaby...ran the CCC the last two years and plan to do it again. Odd thing is, both years the 6.4 mile CCC seemed harder to me than the 13.1 mile half-mar cause it was so muggy. I'm thinking this year it won't seem so bad! I'll let ya know and meet up sistah.

Ozzie and Scoop and the rest of you sweeties.....big fat hugs and kisses at ya! You all have made my day.

Amyloves;
Take your victory in your efforts. The ability to attempt what most people find difficult or crazy is bigger than the result. Keep your chin, and more importantly your feet ;) , up, bay-bee and my offer is still on to run the sunday morning race during fest (I know...not the time to think about running LOL)
