I took my son Ian to Wrigley for his 3rd birthday yesterday to see the Cubs and LSU Coach Paul Mainieri sing "Take Me Out To The Ballgame". I bought a single ticket for us in the upper deck box right under the WGN press box. I thought that it would be the best spot to watch him sing. Unfortunately we were too close and couldn't see him while he was singing. When he was done though, he leaned over and asked, "Where are my Tiger fans at". There were none in our section that he could see so he leaned over the rail a little more and I lifted Ian up so he could see that he was representing the Tigers with his LSU shirt and hat. He saw him and threw the hat that the Cubs gave him with "Chicago Cubs 7th Inning Stretch Singer 2009" embroidered on the side down to Ian. He then motioned for us to come to the side press box door. When the inning was over he came out and took some pictures with Ian.

Coach Mainieri is an unbelievably great guy. This is something that Ian and I will cherish forever :-)

They sure are. Nothing like the feeling they give you.

Thanks for all of the nice comments, everyone. It still has not really set in how great a day it was celebrating my little man's 3rd birthday with just the two of us at Wrigley together and the things that transpired.

Wonderful story and memory!

I was at Wrigley on Monday evening with a friend. We left at the bottom of the 11th. They won at the bottom of the 13th on a grand slam hr. It didn't matter... it was all good.

So cool, and congrats on the College World Series...as a Longhorn I was disappointed, but if we couldn't win it, I was glad the Tigers did...I remember being impressed with how humble and friendly Mainieri was in his interviews up in Omaha....now even more so.......celebrated my 40th birthday there myself....Wrigley Field that is....

Thanks Barry. I really appreciate it. I was impressed with the Texas fans that hung with us while tailgating. What a great place to celebrate your 40th. I'm leaving you a little belated birthday present picture :-)

Thanks a lot, pokerchick. I already have to deal with everyone always saying I'm the luckiest guy they have ever met, now you dig this up to add fuel to the fire?

I don't usually make a habit of striking deals with someone with poker in their username, more often than not that doesn't seem to work out well for me, but I will give it a shot just this once. We can chop the "luckiest" moniker.

Sorry, Fred, but my luck doesn't seem to translate well with the lottery.

You won't hear any complaints from me there. I don't think I could possibly find a better person to be associated with.
