There was some guy at Fitzgeralds that was more drunk and more hung up on Susan than I could ever imagine being. He had a walker but still fell off his stool several times and knocked over several drinks. I came across like David Niven in comparison and was quite the perfect gentleman.
Now more about Paul please.

Okay, wow!
67 year young Paul rocked the night away. He opened the show with "Drive My Car" and proceeded to cover several Beatles classics and sprinkled in a couple of Wings tunes including "Jet," "Band on the Run" and "Live and Let Die". The pyrotechnics during the later were the best I've ever witnessed but then, I wasn't into hair bands in the 80's. He got visibly emotional during his ode to John, "Here Today." He also dedicated "My Love" to Linda. Lastly, he played the ukulele during "Something," obviously a tribute to George.
No Billy Joel on Saturday evening; I understand that he joined Paul the night before. No biggie for me because I was there to see Paul.
One of the funnier things that happened during the evening is a girl up front was holding a sign that read "Paul Marry Me." He read the sign to the audience and just simply responded "No."
Paul also talked about his first visit to "Shea" and said he couldn't hear anything which prompted screams from all the gals.
(Sidenote: Mets owner Fred Wilpon walked by me. I behaved myself.)
My only complaint was the tickets indicated a 6:30 start. The opening band, Dublin's "The Script" went on around 8 pm. Paul started about 9 and played for 2 hours. I expect the late start in New Orleans but not in New York.
I'm surprised I'll say this but this show was worth the $175 plus. If you have a chance to see him, you will not be disappointed.

Thanks Steve.I gave that guy a ride home a couple of years ago when he fell down and couldn't get up. He lives in an assisted care facility in Oak Park and definitly shouldn't be drinking like he does.

Flights cheaper into Gulfport??? That really surprises me! I would suggest to you to find out if there's a shuttle to NOLA. Other than that, I would have to say there is no transportation. There is a Grayhound, but I've never had to use it, so can't help you there. What date are you thinking about coming? I am about 30 minutes from Gulfport and will be heading up to NOLA myself.

Ann is correcto!
DougnSaron...I know there are some airlines that are cheaper going into GPT but the shuttles are only to the casinos. It isn't the easiest commute to Nola with public ground transportation. Most would also just take you to MSY if you even found one. They did away with the airport shuttles after Katrina. I used to get one from Sun Coast Hotel for $25, but that no longer exists.
Good Luck and see you at Mardi Gras.

It's our first time and we need plenty of help. We arrive Friday morning 2/12 in Gulfport, MS (ugh!) and know we're ending that day on Frenchmen strolling between the Pine Leaf Boys at dba and Anders at the Blue Nile.
We're pretty much left with FOMS from that point through our return on Wednesday.
P.S. Staying at the La Quinta thanks to some great Priceline advice on the board several months ago! Thanks again!

You will be in good shape as we will be with a great crazy group....some locals, some out of towners. We check in on Wednesday the 10th. If you want, email me at taj4167 at yahoo dot com and we can exchange numbers and you can either hang with us or run for the hills. This will be mwgirls (Linda's) first Mardi Gras so all hell is going to break loose. Tabasco and his wife Chris are also in the same hotel.

Speaking of beads, if you have no desire to keep, ship or pay extra baggage fees for all the beads you catch, THR artist Margie Perez works with RECYCLEBEADS.COM in conjunction with the Arc of Greater New Orleans to assist with the collection and sale of recycled beads.
The Arc of Greater New Orleans is a non-profit organiztion which serves people with intellectual disabilities and delays from birth through adulthood in Orleans, Jefferson and St. Bernard parishes. The Arc of Greater New Orleans is a proud partner agency of the United Way.

Last year we stumbled on a pretty cool Fat Tuesday event. We stayed in the Marigny, and the Krewe of St Anne, a marching krewe that passes down Royal and through the FQ, formed up underneath our balcony near the corner of Franklin and Royal. This is a gay krewe, but the entire neighborhood turned out. Costumes were fantastic (but of course my kilt was a highlight). It was a hoot. Lotsa fun if you need something to do on Mardi Gras day.
