While surfing around tonight I came across yet another live download site that is also powered by, you guessed it, nugs.net. I haven't thoroughly checked all the offerings, but it appears that they, too, are selling sets from festivals, including the String Cheese Incident set from Rothbury less than two weeks ago. I'm guessing that, as Baconwrapped reported with some of the other Nugs stuff, they just take what the bands give them and sell it--in which case it would obviously be less involved than what Munck or even digitalsoundboard.net do. But what got me curious is this offering:

http://www.livedownloads.com/live-music/0,3904/Assembly-of-Dust-mp3-flac-download-5-30-2009-Crawfish-Festival-Augusta-NJ.html

I find this very strange because I thought digitalsoundboard was the exclusive vendor for live recordings from CFF, and I know they sold the AOD set on site. So...I wonder what's the deal here? Did AOD give these folks the rights too? Did digitalsoundboard give them their master? Curiouser still, the AOD set is still not available for download from digitalsoundboard.net. I'm soooo confused!

In any event, it's another good source of live recordings for purchase, and maybe another indicator of what an outfit like Nugs could offer to Jazz Fest, either by itself or in collaboration with others.

Livedownloads and Nugs are two parts of the same company....

I got a note from Michael A. He's having trouble logging onto the board, but said this:

I asked Dave of Digital Soundboard about the AOD downloads.
He told me that AOD and that other website have a business relationship.
CFF and Digital Soundboard is not profiting from that website downloads.
Dave told me that he will have more CFF acts available in the next few days on http://www.digitalsoundboard.net
Feel free to quote this message on the JF message board.

Yes, I was noting that it is another outlet for Nugs recordings, and another indicator of what services they may be able to provide to Jazz Fest. Here is some more interesting info on what they do:

Music service provider nugs.net enterprises offers a turn-key solution for online music distribution. The nugs.network currently delivers music downloads for over 100 artists including Dave Matthews Band, Metallica, Phish, the Grateful Dead, Jerry Garcia, Gov't Mule, Widespread Panic, The String Cheese Incident, The Radiators, and the Bonnaroo Music Festival. Private label websites within the nugs.network include LivePhish.com, LiveMetallica.com, LiveWidespreadPanic.com, LiveDownloads.com, LiveCheese.com, and the free music channel at stash.nugs.net.

The nugs.network delivers over 3 million downloads per month to nearly 1 million users. More than 50,000 users each month listen to nugs.net Internet radio and download monthly podcasts from nugs.net live music archives.

And it looks like, working in conjunction with a company called Third Wave Productions, they do more for Bonnaroo than just distribute what is given to them; the combination looks more like what Munck does, but still on a somewhat more limited basis:

The Bonnaroo Music Festival, held each year in Manchester, TN, drew 90,000 music lovers from all over the world in June of 2004 and again in 2005. Over 80 artists performed, ranging from Dave Matthews to Trey Anastasio to The Dead and Bob Dylan. Bonnaroo partnered with nugs.net and Musictoday to create LiveBonnaroo.com, a private-label download service offering high quality downloads of many of the performances from Bonnaroo. Multitrack recordings culled from six stages were mixed by Third Wave Productions on a 24 hour production schedule in four live mix rooms backstage throughout the weekend. Upon final mix approval from each artist, nugs.net mastered and encoded each performance and published the music for download on LiveBonnaroo.com. Among the 30 participating artists were Dave Matthews & Friends, The Dead, Galactic, My Morning Jacket, Del McCoury, and the North Mississippi Allstars Hill Country Review.

I got a note from Michael A. He's having trouble loggong onto the board, but said this:

That's a bummer. I like the guys from Digital Soundboard, but I'm guessing that their delay in making this and other downloads available lost them a lot of sales--especially when another provider had it out there already.

Thanks for the 411 on the SCI set, Lit. I may have to order it.

I have dealt with Livedownloads a lot in the past and have been very pleased with them thus far
