Just got back from watching Paul McCartney play a free set on the top of the Late Show Ed Sullivan Theater marquee. Gotta say I was pretty impressed by the old man, especially the way he shredded on guitar on a Foxy Lady jam.

The sound was not bad for a city street, and it wasn't nearly as crowded as it was for Phish's performance on the marquee five years ago.

Here was the setlist:

Get Back
(Something no one recognized, presumably a new song -- handfuls of people begin leaving)
(Another unknown tune)
Band On the Run
(Another unknown tune, kinda bluesy with the Foxy Lady jam on the coda-- this one was good)
Helter Skelter!!!
Back in the U.S.S.R.

I'm guessing we aren't seeing all those songs on Letterman. I wish we were. I wonder if he's playing in the studio for the show?

If I were watching him play i sure as heck wouldn't leave at the 2nd song even if I didn't recognize it!!!!

I just saw a Letterman promo and they showed Sir Paul playing - so I bet they show part of it (my guess is one song).

I would check Dave's website over the next week or so. I have seen "exclusive" music performances of guests that are not broadcast on the show.

This song from The Fireman album sounds much better on TV than it did live. I actually heard a stream of Electric Arguments when it came out and I dug it.
