They did a nice one last year with live music and we all got a certificate signed by the mayor after Jackie Clarkson (is that her name?) made a speech. Nagin was originally scheduled to speak but "something came up" at the last minute. Maybe he had to go super glue someone's door shut or something.

p.s. Lit...juries know enough that you still have your law license, so bite me!:D

I keep staring at the Bacon Quilt and noticing beauty in different aspects. The perfect level of doneness of the bacon. The alignment of the pieces. The way the ends are just long enough to hold it together. The texture. The value change. It is a true masterpiece.

With all respect to Delta, I think that the Bacon Quilt is the most beautiful quilt I've ever seen. Can you imagine how the jury would have responded to it?

The medium, of course, is exquisite and the balance is perfect. Although it is more of an abstract than I usually produce the lines are proportional and have good scale and shape to the overall design. The composition is well-defined, with appropriate contrast and unity as a whole. The Russian judges give it a 9.7

All that adds up to, though, is a hearty breakfast...your submission will continue to impress even after the judges have satisfied their pork fat cravings twice over.

Delta,

I have absolutely no idea. As a pure guess, maybe 10-15 hours? That's not including painting the fabric though. It's hard to gauge total time since I'm usually working on multiple pieces at the same time. The ideas and designs are what usually take the most time. I painted the fabric over a year ago and never did anything with it until the design came to me for that piece. The actual sewing isn't what takes the longest, it's the prep.

By the way, that's one of the hardest questions to answer (the other is "where do your ideas come from?")and I get it on a regular basis. My usual answer is "my whole life" but that sounds sort of flip in this situation.

The show will be hanging the entire month of August so maybe some of y'all will get a chance to see all the work before it comes down. One of my studio mates also had a piece accepted so check that one out too. Hers is a mixed media Satchmo grape box shrine.

The art is hung all over inside Crescent City Brewhouse, upstairs and down, and is open to the public to just look, but you can always sit down and eat too.

Yeah, me neither.

Why were you being forced to go to the opera?

HAHAHAHA!

Carmen is my 2nd cousin (she's also her own first cousin, but that's a whole 'nother story) that went down to NOLA with me so that she couldn't invite herself to go to the beach house with my mother and uncle. On her best days she's not torqued to factory spec. After she woke Linza up, apparently to tell her she no longer had sex, I thought it might be best to just come on back home instead of subjecting anyone else to her. I'm pretty sure she managed to offend about 83% of the people we came into contact with as it was.

But I'm sure seefood will be happy to know that she talked about him alllll the way home.

I was confused too, so I asked him. This was his response;

Rhonda,

I am incredibly sorry, this was a mistake on our end. You were the second place winner in the Satchmo Art Show. I will see to it that all future announcement list you as the correct winner.

Sincerest Apologies,

If I was a politician down there, I'd think something was up, but I'm giving the guy a pass on it since this is his first year and he's a really nice guy. And for extra credit, he responded to my email within 15 minutes of me sending it.
