I wonder if anyone will play a Martin?

Lots of great acts. If days weren't an issue, I wouldn't miss Brave Combo, Los Straitjackets, or Web Wilder. Of the acoustic type acts, I think Carrie Rodriguez is hot (her music is pretty good, too), I've always been a Catie Curtis fan, Paul Rishell & Annie Raines play great traditional blues, as does my friend Andy Cohen (say hello for me), and I almost forgot Rosie Flores.

Looks amazing again. Aside from the NOLA acts you know, here are my personal recommendations from among the other artists:

Bearfoot: Great contemporary bluegrass from Alaska; very easy on the ears and eyes.

Chris Smither: Perhaps you know him from New Orleans; if not, great singer/songwriter, story teller and acoustic blues performer.

The Duhks: Excellent Canadian roots music band with diverse styles, clever songs and fun performances.

Los Straightjackets: Crazy surf-type music with rockabilly and Mexican-tinged influences, from some Nashville musicians who wear Mexican wresting masks while performing.

Lovell Sisters: Bluegrass/country/folk from three young beauties who are equally adept instrumentally and vocally. Like Bearfoot--very easy on the ears and eyes.

Scythian: Maybe my favorite of the bunch. Crazy mix of Celtic and Klezmer-influenced music; great live performances with tons of energy.

We caught Carrie Rodriguez on Austin City Limits last night - highly recommended - I look forward to catching her set at a festival sometime soon....

Hi Tabasco! We'll get back to you about going either Saturday August 1st or Sunday August 2nd (or both). Too bad Rosie Flores is going on so late on Sunday, we really wanted to see her but have to get up early and get back to the real world on Monday.

PS Thanks again for the awesome fireworks!

Grayson Capps 8/8 - Blues-rock.. A Must, if you haven't seen him.

And the movie Love Song for Bobby Long if you have not seen it (sorry I plug that movie anytime I see the opportunity)

Off to buy his latest release Rott N Roll on i-tunes now!

Wow! Thanks guys! :D

Will try to keep this alive so more will find this gem of a music fest.

Here's a video I took of an up and comer in the Blues scene, I say up and comer only because he is 18!

I saw him first when he was 15 and he blew me away!

He's playing on 8/1 & 8/2

enjoy:)

Davy Knowles & Back Door Slam - 8/3

Best f*&*&ing young guitarist around. Raved about him last year and saw him again this weekend. Now 20 I believe, a voice kinda like Warren Haynes, good originals and killer covers, and respects those who came before. Told the audience how his Dad giving him the first John Mayall's Bluesbreakers album turned him on and then said it was the second with Peter Green that got him before doing a killer 'You Don't Love Me', then urged everyone to check out Rory Gallagher before launching into a vicious 'Walk On Hot Coals' and did about a 12 minute version of CSN&Y's 'Almost Cut My Hair'

This kid is real deal. http://www.davyknowles.com/

SCOOOOP!!!! How the F@%& are you!?

Wow thanks! will definitely check Davy Knowles out! Sounds great!

BTW, Eric Steckel actually toured with John Mayall.... when he was 12.

In November of 2003 the "ESB" appeared at the Sarasota Blues Festival where Eric’s powerful set and cameo appearances became the talk of the day. Before the night was over Eric was introduced by John Mayall
as the youngest person ever on stage with the Bluesbreakers.

Eric left a lasting impression on Mayall and in the Summer of 2004, Eric appeared in Sweden,
Norway and Denmark as a special guest with John Mayall and The Bluesbreakers during their Scandinavian Tour.
In early 2005 Eric traveled to Los Angeles where he joined Mayall for session work on the Bluesbreaker's "Road Dogs" record.

If you want to see something a little unusual, try Zen for Primates. It's cabaret, heavy on the irony, really heavy on the musianship. They play today.

Los Straitjackets were fun as usual! Also really enjoyed the Young Werewolves, and got to check out Tabasco's fave, Eric Steckell. The kid can play.

This was a nice festival--we hope to be back next year.
