Hey all-- Wondering if anyone else has had a problem downloading from Jazzfest Live. I bought the Allen Toussaint one as soon as it went on sale and it came with the wrong music-- turned out to be the Radiators, and only about 1/2 of their set. I emailed, got an immediate response, and they reset my doiwnload-- which turned out to be the Radiators again. I emailed again, they promised to fix it, and that was the last I heard. None of the many mails I've sent in the past two weeks have been returned.

I think someone connected with JF LIve posted here a little while ago-- Maybe someone knows how I can get their attention? I don't mind losing the ten bucks, but I'm dying to get my hands on the Toussaint (which they're still selling,a nd for all I know it's still the Rads).

Thanks, peace....

There's a long thread here where folks have discussed various problems with Jazzfest Live - but I think you getting the wrong set is a first.

If it makes you feel better, you weren't getting the entire Toussaint set anyway

What a clusterf*ck

it really is crazy. I hope Steve's Offbeat article next month causes some changes to be made.

Didn't even realize "American Tune" was missing, but what I really want is the new original songs he played that day, like the one about Jazzfest. Maybe someday I'll get teh copy I paid for.

And I haven't even mentioned their habit of putting 70-minute sets on two 35-minute CD's and charging extra for them, which is the only reason I didn't buy the Rads this year.

While I'm at it, the setlist on the Rads half-set I received was ridiculously inaccurate. "Screwloose," a pretty well known Rads song, was ID'd as "Keeping California"-- words that appear nowhere in the song, but they probably misheard the line "Everytime I phone ya, you're DEEP IN CATATONIA". Sheesh!

...where I am now entertained by all the MunckMusic FUBAR stories and also quite certain that I won't be enabling this dysfunctional mess.

Too bad for the musicians and fans alike.

This would be quite laughable if it weren't so sad. How such a finely run event as Jazz Fest would work with such an outfit is beyond me. I've been saying that for years, and it only seems to get worse.

Sadly, I have to agree. I say sadly because I think the jazzfestlive.com folks are good people, at least the ones I've met. But I have to conclude that they are simply in over their heads with this.

I'm still not getting any joy out of these incompetents. They've charged me twice for the same show but my download didn't work, as I stated in the other thread. After emailing them numerous times daily for a week I haven't received one response. I'm just about at the point of reporting them to the authorities(whoever they may be).

You could probably report them to the Better Business Bureau.

Only if they are members of BBB

Well that's highly unlikely. I guess it's the jazzfest folks who need to hear it and I imagine festydave is reading it here. So fingers crossed that problem is resolved.

Forget the authorities: if you didn't get what you paid for, and they aren't responding, just dispute the charge with your credit card company.

I'll be filing my story with OffBeat on Monday and will try to include as comprehensive a list of complaints as is reasonable... some things they can't do much about, of course... there are always going to be technical difficulties/limitations withe the recordings. and as we've seen in our discussion some people love the really live sound (crowd noise etc) while others hate that, so taste and senses of aesthetics come into play.

Also, they do largely rely on the bands and band representatives for the set list titles... so if songs are identified incorrectly, I'd say blame the band for not readily giving the Munck folks accurate lists. I mean, how hard could that be for a band's manager to email them a set list after the show?

But the real issues have to do with poor communication and customer service, as we see, failure to address legitimate issues even after they are brought to their attention.

If you want to complain to someone, complain to the JazzFest people... cc Quint and the PR folks or whoever you can on every email you send to Munck. And keep writing here, as I know FestyDave and others are aware of what is being written here.

One point of clarification: many of the bands don't have managers.

Correct me if I'm wrong---isn't it illegal for someone to charge your credit card before they actually send you what you paid for? If this is the case, are the jazzfestlive.com folks charging people at the fairgrounds for product that isn't shipped until 3 months later?

The folks at art4now have been successfully doing that for years.

I don't think this is true Chris, lot's of businesses charge your card upon making the transaction before goods/services complete. I don't think there's a law one way or the other (maybe something that varies by state and/or industry).

okay, point taken... so then would it be so hard for someone from the band itself to provide Munck with an accurate set list?

Not absolving Munck of responsibility, but of all the things involved in this, a set list is something the artists could easily provide. Munck told me that he wastes a lot of time pursuing the artists to give him accurate set lists and often gets nothing. And with 40-50 shows to process each Fest, with a fair amount of technical work behind each disc and then each MP3/flac track (each song has to be encoded separately) and then make 30-second clips of each track for the previews one by one, hounding a bunch of artists for accurate lists is a lesser priority. Now, of course, if they did all the other things well we'd probably be more tolerant.
