I'm kinda glad Tujaques & Harry's never make this list. It keeps them "real" and off the way too beaten path! :)

That's how I would have described Bullets--and definitely not Tujaques, seeing as it is right on Decatur. Surprised to see Bullets make the list. Way off the beaten path, and one of the most "real" New Orleans bars I have been to.

Tujaques may physically on the beaten path but not the typical Decatur bar. I think of it as more of a locals place thus off the tourist beaten path.

Personally, I think its pretty darn funny that New Orleans has a top FIFTY bars.. I wonder how many other cities might have this kind of list...
A few of my favorite NOLA watering holes are not on the list, but that's fine by me.
Glad to see Ruby's made it:D

Nice list. Have to add the Erin Rose on Conti st. in the Quarter though. Nice place to get away from the madness for a bit if your in the Quarter.

Perhaps we can persuade Gambit to do a Bottom 50 and then we know every other place is good to go to.

i'm not sure if i'm hurt or delighted to find out that the bars that i have the most history w/ were left off the list of the 50 best bars in the city....
the bar w/ the most time spent is easily the chart room,.. followed by ol' toones....
the oyster bar at felix's is the easy winner as the bar that has best emptied the pockets over the years,.. but every dollar spent there leads to smilin' time.... the belly really likes that place both for the oysters and the belly laughs... the shuckers there have entertained us very well and provided plenty of great stories... considerably less post k though,.. maybe because my far better half has stopped comin' and the boys were entertainin' her and not me.... the bastid's......
the easy winner of two categories,.. time spent in line tryin' to get a drink,.. and time spent hangin' outside of a bar,.. goes to liuzza's....
most always enjoy the stops at lucy's retired surfer bar.... but there has been a bar tender or two in there that you could use a slap side of the head to waken to the fact that they are workin' in a service industry.....

Have you ever asked the bartenders at Marie Leveau's about the mummified cat that is hanging over the bar?
There is some serious hoodoo that can be felt around that place............
But it is also one of my favorite little dives in N.O.---Phatpapa, Gards and myself had a few rounds there after the get together at Jolies' place; I like that fact that the staff at Crescent City Brewing Company are constantly stopping in Maries for a quick drink/smoke while they are actually still on the clock!!! at CCBC.
Only in New Orleans can your waitress take your order, slip next door for a cold one, and then be back at your table with your food, all without anyone batting an eye..........

Oh si!!!
Our first stop in New Orleans after checking in to our room is to go over to ML's and get Renee's work schedule. We hang there whenever she's tending bar.

We will have to meet up there for drink next time---Of course, as small as Marie's is, we might have to "stagger" shifts........

hmmmm,.. i personally know of another place...
we did that for years workin' in tampa 81-83... and we worked in a full tux... we had to look good preparin' a 1/4 of our menu by cookin' table side... there was a great bar jus' a hop,.. sip,.. and a scotch out the back door,.. and that place is still there some 28 years later,.. the copper top pub,.. 5112 east fowler ave... the owner back in the day,.. a young guy,.. used to drink a bottle of drambuie every evenin'...
we were constantly runnin' back and forth.... but,.. we honestly did bat an eye or two,.. for the very pretty ladies who kept us company while we were there.... we could drink for free in our own restaurant so it was something other than drinks that kept us goin' next door.....

Sounds like a fun place to work!!!
Of course, here in U-taw things are not quite so loose, though I do have several friends in the service industry, and have been to a few wild nights after closing time at assorted bars/resturants when the (paying) customers have all gone home, and the cash registers have been unplugged............
Something about the job, I guess, but waitresses/bartenders/cooks can all really put away the ol' silly sauce!!! (among other assorted consumeables)
