I just read on nola.com that Evelyn from Evelyn's Place on Royal passed away a couple of weeks ago. Anyone know anything?
I have a friend who's gotten to know her over the years. Stops in to visit and have a beer but ends up washing dishes for her!
I'll miss hearing the two of them banter.

That's a shame for sure! She was a tough old broad in the finest sense of the word. Evelyn's used to be our first stop in NOLA for an Abita and a bowl of gumbo. Used to be, because it seemed to go solidly downhill the last couple of year's before the Thing.
I don't think I even thought about going in last Fest. Now, I guess I'm sorry I didn't.:(

I agree with everything that has been said. Evelyn was a FQ Classic. I grew up there and when in the quarter always made time for a session at her place. The dialogue between her and "the old man" was nothing short of brilliant. She will be sorely missed.
RIP, Sweet Lady.

Thank you everyone. I passed Amy's link on to my friend in Chicago.
On the 7th New Orleans lost a piece of what makes it unique. I'll have to stop in during the fest and give Frank my regards.

This one belongs back on top. Sadly I'd never heard of the place. Will make a point to stop by and pass my condolences. Loved the part where she roughed up Mickey Rourke!
