I was curious why Dr. Michael White wasn't on the Fest lineup and if he was going to be playing his usual gig with Detroit Brooks at The Rose Nicaud for the Strut, so I was lucky enough to speak with someone in the know. During our conversation I mentioned that the Fest lineup looked kind of weak this year and he said it's because they couldn't get enough sponsors this year.

I'm sure it will still be a fun weekend, but I thought I'd share this with y'all for your thoughts ...

Yikes!

I assume that SatchmoFest operates the same way that I hear FQF operates: Bands have to get their own sponsors in order to play the fest.

That being the case, while this year's FQF didn't seem to suffer, I hope this weak economy doesn't affect FQF next year. And I'm bummed to hear of its effect on SatchmoFest. :(

Wow, I didn't know that bands had to get their own sponsors to be part of FQF. Any idea how much that costs?

Some Threadheads sponsored Fatien Ensemble at FQF this year. I think it was around $1500.

For Fatien the goal was published as $3000 (http://www.nojazzfest.com/chat/showpost.php?p=227786&postcount=33) but perhaps $1500 is the minimum?

yes, the THeads pitched in for Fatien for FQF. Wynn led that charge. THR was approached for Satchmo Fest, but we politely declined.....we just don't have enough $$ to do that, and we're focused on raising $$ to help make CD's.
